Lapua X-Act

I have a short story about X-Act,...... When it first came out one of the guys that usually shot with us in New Richmond Wi bought a brick of it.

We were watching him shoot the second relay when he turned and said “I’ve never shot a duce shooting X-Act, and I’ve shot several boxes of it!!”

Yup.....you guessed it the very next shot....the prettiest duce you’ve ever seen.....the laughter went on for about a minute......true story.

You guys do realize I hope, that stories posted like this, cause money to change hands. I just finished this afternoon a match in the wind with Midas. It came through for me, but two top points guys I know aren’t going to stand for me and my sneaky ancient 40-x much longer. It’s a big jump in price between the two, and it makes Tenex seem cheap by comparison. I realize in big wind we will all be toast no matter what the bullet. I just hope it works for a couple extra in the baby wind.

** He jinxed himself but it’s the shots before that last one that prompted the statement.

Perhaps, that truth is ever present and money changes hands regardless. Nevertheless this isn’t a story per say, just an experience we all shared that day. The shooter was a national champ at one time and built many first class rimfire rifles for himself and many other shooters. Wind was not an issue...

I do appreciate and understand your concern regarding a pictular manufacturers product.
Nevertheless it’s more about “pride goeth before the fall” type of lesson then a lesson about economics.
If X-Act was the undisputed best I doubt you’d be shooting anything but X-Act and neither would anybody else....But I can’t say it and I haven’t met anyone who could.
I want to be clear, I mean no disrespect to you or Lapua, as you certainly seem like a likeable fella and I’m sure you possess those traits.

But it happen as depicted I shall tell the story as it happened.

I tested 7 different lots of Lapua in my daughter’s smallbore rifle at 50 yards the other day. 2 of these are X-Act and 5 are Midas+. Can you pick out the 2 X-Act lots?

I have no idea which lot was the X-Act but I sure like the looks of the first group on the left and the #5 group from the left. They are nice and round which is what I look for in a group - consistency.

Thought this was a good example reinforcing what others have said about the need to match up the best lot you have available to your rifle. I’ve had X-Act tested in her rifle at the Lapua Test Center on 3 separate occasions and have yet to buy any of it because it tested best.

As a rule good ammo shoots well in a variety of rifles. Gary
grauhanen wrote this very good:

"The name on the box is never a guarantee of how the ammo will perform in a rifle. I have shot some lots of CX that are better than some lots of M+ and X-Act.
Furthermore, not all rifles will shoot the same batches (or lots) of ammo equally."

But there are exceptional good lots also under XAct brand.Mr Tomi Korpi & his son Aappo Korpi find one and they clean the table in Australian RFBR World Championships. Also few other Finnish shooters done well with XAct.

But when you shoot last ammo of your exceptional good lot it is sad day if you dont have next good one waiting.

The single best score I have ever shot at our local BR-50 Match on the IBS target with my CZ 457 Varmint was with the one box of X-Act I have ever bought. Sadly I lack the funds to test X-Act to the point of statically significant results compaired to other brands, let alone compairing different lots. I will defer to those who have and found lot to lot differences.

I was shooting Xact and had 2 bricks of it since I shoot matches and lots are critical for consistency.
That being said, I added a tuner and move to Eley Match or Tenex and have improved results making Lapua not very palatable at double the price.
Many in our matches shoot CenterX with great results.
