Lapua Gold Box?

I'm seeing a lot of gold box Lapua brass being sold for exorbitant prices, what's the difference between it and the new blue box stuff?

Lapua made a change several years ago to reduce neck thickness in 6mm brass only and distribute it in the new blue plastic box. The new stuff requires much less neck turning for tight necks.

Superstitions...

Lapua changed boxes. About the same time (but not exactly) Lapua made a teeny change in the neck - which is often not noticeable.

So you can have the brown box withe "New" cases, and you can have blue boxes with the "old" cases.

But like a lot of things, whenever there is a change, no matter how small, the "Original" becomes the sought after version... even if the new version is better.

Way back when, Hodgdon sold a surplus bulk ball powder, and he called it "Ball-C".
Ball-C became very popular in BR circles, because it shot very well. When Ball-C was gone, Hodgdon released Ball-C2, an almost identical version.

Immediately, the original Ball-C became priceless, and now had amazing magical attributes that were never seen before.

People are odd. ;)

It's not superstitions at all ::) There are differences in the two..if you don't believe it, take a case from reach box, fireform into a Dasher case, and measure the differences..aside from the already mentioned neck thickness..

I remember reading on the Bulletin a long while ago a comparison of the chemical composition of cartridge brass between many different brands, and including "Blue Box" and "Gold Box" and the "Gold Box" had more zinc IIRC, which made those cases harder or more durable than the composition of the "Blue Box" or say Winchester etc. manufactured brass.

I reckon those people who like very high pressure cartridges would seek out this brass as it should not show expansion as much. ???

totally agree with falcon pilot/ my experiences with old versus new are wall thickness & in my dasher the old type fireforms longer nk in my opinion / the old /its just better brass regards shooter63

There's a reason why the newer Lapua Blue Box has the nickname - "No Turn" brass. As for the price business, that's just an availability thing depending on whose selling it and what someone else is willing to pay. There are still reliable distributors or even private sellers where you can get decent prices. Still the days of old are becoming a thing of the past thanks to you know who and his followers who want the free ride.

It's a good thing he doesn't make firearms. If he did and they worked just as well as his Healthcare "Exchange", I probably want my ex-wife to test fire every firearm I bought from him (If I was dumb enough to do so in the first place).

This "ACA" couldn't be more flubbered up, even if "he'd" planned it that way.
