Labradar, what's your thoughts?

Riverwolf what did you use to build your base plate? I read somewhere that the baseplate that labradar offers is to light and some muzzle blasts can move the unit.

I don't shoot any subsonic or suppressed . I do shoot a few rifles with brakes . I put a cement block between the brake and labradar . for the labradar base I used a scrap piece of 3/4 plywood with a 1/4-20 bolt through the center . this seems to work well for me , I mostly shoot prone .

Dogs down, I bought a 6"x 12"X1/4 aluminum plate and a pan head camera head. Offset the head a bit foreword of center to allow the xtra battery pack to attach to rear of plate. Cost was a few bucks more than Labrador plate but a lot more stable. just before I bought mine talked to another shooter that bought their base, his comment was don't waste your money you can build a better one.

I have the factory baseplate. It works well. Very sturdy. I am pretty sure they went through
a design change after they first came out. To make setting up simple. I lay a piece of 3/8 id
6" long brass tube in the groove (sight in slot) on top of the unit. Use it like a tube sight to line it up with target. It will help give you a better line on bullet path if your shooting past
300 yards

One of my favorite things is there is nothing ahead of the line, so you don't have to have a cold range to tweak the screens. You also never have to worry about shooting the thing. Having the data downloaded and opening in Excel is also SWEET!!! I have two gate type chronys that I should sell, as I doubt I'll be using them anymore.

My shooting partner and I went out shooting yesterday and could not get the LabRadar's to work. We tried everything, even using both labradars on one gun and nothing. Finally gave up and I pulled out my old faithful Oehler 35. Problem fixed.

Any pointers as to how to make them reliable?

It probably needs to be moved farther forward. Small calibers or non braked rifles seem to work best when the radar is closer to the muzzle. With low report rifles sometimes it has to be in front of the rifle a little.

Erik, did you imput all the data before you started the trigger? It needs all the data or nothing will function.

I contacted labradar, they informed me that the air gun trigger adapter would probably be needed if shooting suppressed subsonic loads. I don't know if the adapter would help eliminate any problems some may be having shooting regular loads, but it may be worth looking into.

It's the best thing out there. If you see an "oddball" velocity, you can look at the different distance velocities... it's like having 5 cronies lined up for proof screens. And it takes less time setting up than any ONE of my past cronies. Easy to use from prone also which should be real great tuning drops/testing drag curves. That test "facility" don't have benches

I agree, it is especially usueful for multiple calibers/rifles but n one setting, just change bullet weight and boom, off and running.....i have mine set very close to the bbl and about 6 inches behind crown , never one issue

The amount of detail in the excel download is great, really like the date and time to the second data

I sold my magnetto last week, to pay for half of the lab radar, oehler is next

I had a Labradar when I was a kid. Best dog ever. He could fetch, sit and roll over...oh wait. Nevermind.

Like Tom, I have found that even when I got an oddball muzzle velocity, the down range velocities captured and were as expected so I could backplot to find a very close estimate of the MV...if needed. If I miss velocities on a consistent basis it is always a set-up/settings issue easily remedied in my experience.

I agree. It's sensitive to aiming.

mine will pick up a BB gun (350 fps),,,,,I dont do subsonic rifles(whisper etc,,) but it should get one of them if it will do a BB gun,,,,I use it routinely for 300 mag--06--243--BR's etc,,,,this radar unit is unbeatable for convenience and it does not affect the bullet impact in any way,,,you just have to read the instructions and tinker with it a lil',,,,,Roger

here is a photo of my home made lab radar base,,,it can be tilted up or down and turned left or right ,,the mark on the center helps align it with the target and the bullet path,,,,plus a convenient place to put the battery pack,,,and note pad and pencil,,

Erik - If you have two you have to put them on different frequencies or they will talk to each other and not work well. Did you all do that?
