Oh dang! - Labradar LX - Small form factor

I agree with the bugginess of some of their products, their cycling stuff definitely has it.

But, these radar units have been out for long enough now, with enough rounds down range, that I'm not really seeing a ton of things that need to be fixed or worked around. It's far less buggy than their cycling head units and power meters.

Someone recently commented on my gun-mounted arca rail setup, saying that if it breaks they may not (won't?) warranty it. That may be true, but I'd still buy a replacement unit. I'd note that they do usually offer an out-of-warranty discount for broken devices.

Looks good.

I would be extremely interested to know if it creates "Shotnnnn Track.csv" (e.g.,Shot0001 Track, Shot0002 Track, etc.) files under a TRK directory. These are the files (on the original Labradar), for a given string, that track all the shot data available ( velocity, distance and signal-to-noise ratio for as far as available) for each shot. If it does create these, perhaps you could post the content of a TRK directory? I'd like to see if Labrabaco works with it.

PS: I just got back from a range trip with 59 shots over about a two-hour period (load testing). My original Labradar picked up every shot with the acoustic trigger. The AA's had 40% of their charge left at the end, down from 80% (old rechargeables) to start. And the app was completely reliable - arm/disarm from the phone at the end of each string, no problem. I aimed it carefully, as always, and reaped the dividends.

I’ll check for you next time I can get out there. I have the original LR and had no issues as well, I love it. However, I have limited space in my car and if I can not use a large pelican case for it and use this instead, it saves space in transport… that’s my only reason for getting this. I must admit though, it feels solid, nice and heavy metal construction.. so far, it’s worth the bucks.

Been very happy with my LX so far. Tracking and shot pickup is much better than the old unit.

The mobile app is still junk but it was never a make or break deal for me and since i like my original Labradar so much I wanted to wait till the LX came out.

Not even interested. They neglected their customers for years with both updates that never really fixed anything and bad customer support. I have no trust in that company. Garmin has my money at this point. The mass exodus to the Xero told you what folks thought of the LR as a whole.

The mobile app was a huge sore spot with the original LabRadar and is still junk with the "new and improved" version? I see that the folks at LabRadar still don't pay attention to their customers!
Yes, I had a LabRadar for several years. Yes, I have a Garmin and it works as advertised...every time out.

I don't think so. As above, the last time I was at the range, like every other time, the app was completely reliable. That's as of version 2.0 firmware.
With the history that LR had with the app not working in the original LR it's just a damn shame that they didn't make sure that it worked with version 1.0.

The new Labradar LX may be a great device, but I've already jumped ship to Garmin. I have a bitter taste leftover from Labradar's neglect of its customers. I'm not likely to go back. As I read in this thread, I'm not alone in that regard.

Magnetospeed lost me as well when the clasp broke on my "bayonet." They wouldn't sell me the clasp or the strap. Of course I could buy a new bayonet for a couple hundred bucks. So I put the money toward a Labradar. And now Labradar is dead to me too.

I guess I'm fickle. Something new and shiney, but eventually the shine wears off . . .

SQUIRREL ! ! ! ! !

Everyone is welcome to start a, or join one of the many, "labradar sucks" threads.

This thread is about the LX, and the above comments, while no doubt heartfelt, don't add value.

That matches what I saw a few weeks ago when someone showed up at a PRS clinic with an LX. It was just set on the zeroing table, roughly aligned, and picked up velocities reliably. Easy.

Happy to hear your opinions of the LX when and if you acquire one or are in the presence of one. Based on your posts, pretty sure that won't be happening, but you never know ;)
I'm just responding to what current owners of an LX are saying in this thread.

My experience is the same with the new version but I’m baffled why it took them so long to fix it???? I share the same sentiment as many here, not sure I want to give them more $$$. The new one sounds great but I’m suspect of their track record.

Garmin, smaller, lighter, quicker menus and bootup, fast response time to the shot, 5 button presses for a new series, very intuitive app.

LX, slightly larger, definitely heavier, longer battery life (+40-50%), slower to boot up, slower response time to the shot, but only 3 button presses for a new series, app is a bit clunky, but mines been reliable to pull series from.

Both have been easy to orient.

Garmin missed a shot the other day that the LX picked up, but both have been very reliable.

Thank you for a good comparative report.

Any chance you could plug your LX into a PC and look for "Shot0001 Track.csv", "Shot0002 Track.csv", etc. files? And maybe post a few (perhaps an entire string's worth) if you find them?

These are the detailed velocity / distance / signal-to-noise-ratio files the the Original Labradar keeps. I use them to calculate BC, so I'm interested to see what they look like on the LX, if they're still there.

Can somebody test whether the LX picks up 20 and 17 cal and chime in, not that the LX says it will just real world experience.

So to the people I've asked about track files, turns out there aren't any.

Labradar support answered my question in less than an hour.

"There are no TRK files available for the LX due to the short tracking distance."

So that creates a use-case for the original Labradar.
