Junior Highpower/F-class at Camp Perry 2011

Hello,

This august will be my first time going to Camp Perry. I plan on competing in F-T/R, and I'm 17, so i fall in junior division.

I have a few questions I would like to get cleared up.

I am unsure of the course of fire for the national match course, I plan to only shoot the LR Highpower section (13-17th august I believe). What is the complete course of fire?

Also, to be eligible for high junior, do i get grouped with juniors shooting f-open? or is it only F-T/R.

I have been reading the national match booklets that are on the NRA website, but still haven't found the answers to the above questions.

Thanks for any help,
Oliver

Oliver,
To the best of my knowledge there are no F class matches shot at the August Nationals at Camp Perry.

B.L.

Really? I assumed it is shot alongside highpower as f-class is a division of highpower and that's how it has been at all other NRA sanctioned matches I have attended.

Oliver,
I can't answer your questions, but it makes me happy to see a young fella like you going to Perry, keeping the shooting sport alive. My son is 17 as well and attended his first f-class match Sunday, he took 3rd place with a 371. 5X
all shot @ 1K it was my first f-class match as well and he beat the old man :o
anyway I wish you the best of luck at camp Perry, if there is a f-class match held in August please come back on here and let us know how you did.
Wayne.

Long Range at Camp Perry is unlike any other match you may have attended in that F-Class is not part of the program. The Nationals for F-Class are at the Winnequah Gun Club in Lodi, WI this year in the last week of September.

Wow that's quite a disappointment... Anyone have any idea what the reasons, or negative externalities would be of also shooting some f-class alongside the highpower? Range availability I assume?

Sure as heck am not going to WY 2weeks into senior year. Wonder how many non local juniors make the f-class nationals, I doubt very many.

Never even crossed my mine that there isn't f-class at camp perry, I'm so used to reading "highpower match" and assuming f-class.

Oliver,
Have you ever tried conventional prone shooting with sling & iron sights? You should if you can, you may find that you enjoy it as much or more than f-class. A young guy like you could probably pick it up and shoot well rigt away. Then you could shoot the LR nationals at Camp Perry like you had planned. Just an idea.

Good luck,
Erik

Erik,

I haven't tried conventional prone yet, but i'm considering it, so i can shoot anyway. I have two rifles that may work. A good friend of mine shoots a lot of service rifle, and i bet he could teach me form pretty quick.
I would probably shoot any sight, as all my rifles are scoped.

Definitely a possibility

Oliver

Love your enthusiasm thank God there are young men like you around who want to get out and COMPETE. not only at the local level but go to the big show. Kudos to you bud.
Unfortunatly for you the National Championships and Long Range Highpower Nationals have been at Camp Perry for Long Long ( early 1900's) before FCLASS was ever even thought of so that Venue has pretty much stayed the same. One adavantage is that you could actually shoot BOTH National Championships if you where so inclined. Kinda like the FULLBore National Championships in Raton NM in Sept. ( Fclass Included this time). Hard to fit all this stuff into one summer isnt it? Regionals, StateChampionships, National Championships....Wow lots of shooting ops.

One of our local (Vermont) Juniors, Ruth Chiappinelli is set to make the trip to Lodi to shoot in the F-Class Nationals. She competed at Butner in the 09' Nationals, like most of us in the Northeast it was next to impossible to get to sunny Sac., CA in the middel of winter for that F-Class Nationals, plus she is a junior and attends school. BTW, she holds over 11 Individual F-Class National Records in both High Power and Fulbore and is also the High Power Junior National Champion.

I'm happy to see another Junior interested in the sport, I started in High Power when I was 12, that's 38 long years ago.........

Good luck to Ruth! That 300yard 15shot open record is amazing!

While My parents are cool in many ways, they aren't shooters so i have to pay for all my gear and travel out of pocket. So it's not just leaving out of school, but also several weeks of work in preparation, time I don't have right now. Sure wish I could make it. While it would be a lot of fun, for me, it's just not the right way to start such an important year in school.

11 is an impressive array of records. I keep all the junior open and F-T/R current records above my reloading bench, to keep my eye on the goal. Got a brand new F-TR rig coming in a week, so hopefully my name will soon start popping up on the records page again!

Russ,
Thanks, I have to say shooting has been a very welcoming sport to get into, and have made a lot of friends along the way. And yes, there is way too much I would like to fit into this summer! F-class nationals may not happen this year, but maybe next year!

hey friend its been some time since we last talked.but will say that you are on your way to the top my friend.as I have said before.its too bad that school has put you on hold.a teenager should be able to have his/her summer to do what ever.but I all so know how much you want to grow in this world other than shooting makeing records.

just hope that your new rig does as good if not better than your last rig.and I know how well your last rig shoot.just keep up the good work and you will do all that you want and more.
