It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

It has finally cooled down in the Sip, Thank You Lord! Wife said the turks were scratching in the garden so I figured I go have a look at em in the patch behind the house. Took my coyote caller just for kicks. Called in a big pretty blonde male ,,,,,,, and let the sorry joker get by me 2x's trotting. This female wasn't so lucky. She almost was tho! Almost didn't lead her enough, pretty good trot at 100 yds. Life is good!

This was a long time coming. I have not had opportunity to hunt squirrel in years due to back pain, work, other responsibilities, and lack of an apparent place to hunt. Finally I got off my butt and went today. I did a little research on the woods that I hunted only 300 yards from my house when I was a kid. I moved back in 2017 when I inherited it. It is now surrounded by million dollar homes (not mine!) and municipal property that has been developed for storage of construction debris and salt. However, a plat map revealed that if I did it right, I could hunt safely, be on huntable land and be within the law as far as distance from said houses etc. It was tight, but it worked! Crazy thing is, I saw these four, and four others I had to pass on (see above reasons) and I also saw deer and bumped a grouse. All within 300 yards of my house and 300 yards of parks, houses, etc. Sub-sonics, stealth and extreme care made it a day to remember. I am going back tomorrow.

The added benefit was that when I was in there it was like time travel. I felt like I was 16 again. I used the same scope I used back then too. Only in the past I only had one rifle, a 700 Varmint Special 222 which I loaded down to 22 mag performance. Now it is a legit 22...541T I bought some 25 years ago.

Returned today, and being a weekend, thought it better to go stealthy, not bothering the neighbors with the sound of a firearm. I totally blew it on a fine fox squirrel at 30 feet...forgot to hold low...and he didn't give me a second try.
I got two grey, both at 20-25 yards.

Wife and I made our first set for coyotes this year and called in a quadruple. First time ever. We ended up shooting three dogs but only found the two that died at the call. I hit the third one as he blew by at about 40 yards and rolled him up. True Arizona Coyote fashion he regained his footing and continued to run. Brush was so thick I never got another shot at him. Never found an ounce of blood or fur in the hour we looked for him.

Same thing happened to me yesterday here in AZ. I know i hit one at least once at about 80 yards, he was stumbling around. Shot again when he came into sight a little. Then watched him walking off. Could tell was hurt but never saw a blood trail or any drops of blood.

Arizona dogs are built different. If I didn't know better I would say they don't have any vital organs at all. I have seen them run away from some amazing things.

Worse one i saw run had its intestines hanging out dragging on the ground. Still ran about 300 yards. Followed the blood we saw and was under a tree. 6mm creed with 108 eldm is way way too much. I dont use that anymore
