It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Opening Day Buck for ND. I was pushing the river up towards the farm I grew up on that my cousin now owns, with his permission. Spotted a spike in low spot full of Canary grass, wanted a doe to be with him for my wife and son that were posting on the north end of the mile long pasture. There was a doe and a bigger buck that jumped up (just ended up seeing the south end of him headed north bound). She ended up shooting at the doe, both she and my our son saw it drop. After 2.5 hrs of looking for it in the jungle of grass we walked further south than where she thought it would be and this guy popped up. Missed on the first. Heard a wild ricochet on the second and heard good contact on the 3rd.

125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip and Varget out of my Grandfather's M99 in .300 Savage. The pasture he came out of was his and he ran registered black angus. Ended up in the corn just south of the Farmyard.

Wonderful! I'll eat these over any other freshwater gamefish in North America.
I'm back home in Wisconsin whitetail hunting (Archery and Gun). I always take my friends (whose house I stay at for the hunt) out for walleye. We settled on a place that does pan fried walleye. All I can say is it's the best walleye dinner I have paid for. Sometimes I think I come back for the Walleye more than the hunting.
It's supposed to warm up to high 50's lower 60's next week. Sucks for deer hunting. Also the deer herd here got severely decimated by a March ice storm on top of about a foot and a half of snow. There's no fawns or mature bucks being seen. With the situation being what it is, I shot a spike with my crossbow. Only deer I've had a shot at. Actually thought he was the 2" spike that I have trail cam pics of. I wanted to get him as I've never seen one like that and he would not have cost me my archery buck tag.
I have several antlerless tags, but not going to use them. The herd needs help.
May have to slide my buds boat into the lake and catch some walleyes. Probably better than the deer hunting. The best walleye is fry your own, fresh caught.
My tablet wouldn't work in the field because it was cold. No field pics. Totally forgot to get a pic while he was hanging. The pic is from when I dropped him off at the butcher. He makes better venison summer sausage than any beef summer sausage you can buy.
I do have a gun buck tag, however it does not look good to get a giant buck. All I'm after at this point.

Took both of these at my place in Georgia this week. Most always use different rifles for different deer. Both of these bucks were shot at distances over 200 yards. Watched 15 different bucks but could not get the big ones I have on camera.

Also took two does. One was a “trick” shot at 155 yards with a little Marlin 30-30 carbine.

Tell me more about that scope mount. Never seen one like that before.
It's a Lightfoot mount. Made by a forum member on 24hrcampfire who's screen name is...Lightfoot. If I recall he takes a Model 99 one piece leupold mount and welds on fore and aft to accommodate the rear tang screws and the rear dovetail mount of the iron sights. He does great work. Sadly I remember reading some where that he's done making them. Had to Google fu to see and sure enough he is done. Another forum member there sounds like he will keep the mount going but doesn't have a date yet.

Hopefully this link works. Have never tried to post links.

Missouri 214” ... Everyone has been trying to kill this deer for over 2 year. Lots of trailcam pictures all at night. Mississippi bottoms have everything they need to get big...
