IMR Enduron Powders Being Discontinued

Received this today:

Yes, IMR Enduron powders are still discontinued

We do have other powders that would work for you

Thank You for using our powders!

I realize this is an old thread, but I called Hodgdon, and I was informed that they still intend on offering the ENDURON line, but the plant that produces that line of gunpowders had shifted its operation from making small arms gun powder, to that of canon gunpowders. The plant that was producing the ENDURON powders, is the General Dynamics plant in Canada.

Them 155's are a bit popular knowadays......LOL The amount it takes
to just throw one round down range would keep me going for more
then a year......

That response is probably the first Hodgdon response that makes sense. With the US letting the stockpile drop it's probably not going to get any better since the Admin got caught with their pants down and are now playing catchup.

I did ask the person I spoke to at Hodgdon if he knew if it was gunpowder made for tank rounds or artillery. I'm not sure if there is a difference. I was more interested in the chemical component make up of the gunpowder if it was anything similar to a rifle gunpowder that is offered by Hodgdon. Obviously the kernels would be much larger. Anyways the guy I spoke to had no idea. That's gunpowder recipe apparently is only known between General Dynamics and the US military.

I asked about the Enduron powders back on the 5th of July.
Here's the answer I received:

This series is currently out of production but not discontinued. We hope to bring these powders back. The situation in Ukraine has affected raw materials used for gunpowder worldwide and we do not currently have an eta on when they may again be available.

Too little too late. I spent a good bit on load load development with 4166 only to have it dropped. **** hodgdon! I have left them for a more stable powder company. Whether they bring it back or not wont change a thing in my powder cabinet now. Almost done developing new loads for my rifles and handguns using products from a stable supplier. I'll never buy another hodgdon brand, ever

Apparently it has 20.9 lb of powder in it's charge.

Actually, it varies depending on the range and type of round required for the fire mission at the moment. 155 uses bags. 105 is the largest cased round and even then, they charge the case with bags of powder and seat the round just before firing. At least that’s what I saw observing the crews. Wasn’t an Artillery man personally. Don’t know what size the bags were or remember what the powder grains looked like.

Sorry for thread drift. Back to scheduled programming!

Nitrocellouse is proudced in a batch process and at least some portion of that process may well be the same for small and medium/large areas. The actual extruding/cutting process is different as noted. If I remember correctly the small arms usually have on hole through the kernel while the medium/large arms have seven with the larger kernels.

May be looking into any hoarded or small stocks of
4166. I have one particular wild cat that this powder
gave me the widest node I've ever seen ?? Note.....
It was with a Hammer solid copper bullet in 7mm.
