IMR Enduron Powders Being Discontinued

Only problem is, Hodgdon can't keep their normal line of product
in stock. This has been going on for years. They bought the IMR
brand back in 2003, so I wonder if the other IMR's maybe on the
bean counters chopping block also ?? As for cash tied up in Inventory ??
The shelves still don't dictate that at this time. Usually, excess inventory
means a price drop, and we all know it's the opposite with this company.

Who can figure out what Hodgedon thinks. No company is leaving more money on the table in our hobby than Hodgdon. Even with the pain of the price hike fresh, spending sprees would abound for them, but they just won’t produce.

The way I see it, there is Hodgdon, VihtaVuori and Alliant, which big three the discriminating competition types will use and pivot to.

Of these, the last two names I suspect don’t actually need to sell to consumers because they could divert every kernel made to an affiliated military application.

Hodgdon, being the single-based, ultra-temp stable maker that it is, inherently appeals to the match shooting purist, willing to give up some energy, but here they are forcing customers to try substitutes, some of which have already seen that double-based powders can work exceptionally well.

Right. Considering all that, it might be a good time for them to do the rationalizing - might not have much else to do right now.:)

Just to confirm. Hodgdon makes 0.00 gunpowder. Hodgdon is 'just' marketing the powder with their brands.

That’s logical, they likely spec out the exact characteristics of “their” powders. Australia comes to mind as the source. We see this with things like scopes and Weatherby rifles, among others.

I used some 4451, got it for $29 and another discounted for $20 per pound. It was okay, but nothing special in the 6.5 Creedmoor, that I tryed it in. So this one item is not important to me... but I don't like the elimination of choice in the market place.
Hodgdon never manufactured gun powder, but are distributors...Get used to the shortages, on most everything, energy, food, etc...and political decisions for products from other countries will eliminate access to many products, we still enjoy.
The future outlook is dim, grim, doom & gloom... if we allow the world governments to cintinue to run our lives.
Black powder, and a flintlock, in your near future?

Hodgdon is shuttering their black powder mill in Florida. Good luck.

The idea of the flintlock is... self reliance...you don't need someone else to make your, ...black powder, lead balls, and flint. And if you're into it ...make your own musket, rifle or shotgun. No primers, smokless powder, or fancy bullets needed. People survived long before the modern society and its convinces. Plus the stealthy Bow and arrow...and assorted knives ...you should never be ...unarmed, even if modern manufacturers quit supplying us...for ever.

For you guys complaining about losing a choice in the powder market. When I started reloading we had Hodgdon, IMR, Norma and Winchester for rifle powders. Norma was sporadic in availability but they had 5 rifle powders. Hodgdon had surplus 4895, 4831, and some ball powders nothing slower than 4831. DuPont had 7 nothing slower than 4350 and nothing really new since 1947. So we have far more choice now and that’s one reason some powders disappear. The market is getting a bit crowded really.

Those are the same choices in powder I had when I started in the 70s. Ive wondered since Enduron came out why they wanted to sell so many different powders in the same burn range and I always figured either Endurons or the old IMRs would get cut. If thats all it is OK but there could be other reasons for this discontinue. We may never know. As long as Hodgdon puts the freed up effort and money into making an additional supply of Varget stateside it will be OK…. LOL

I have searched the web and can find no announcement of this cancellation. Unless I see something from Hodgdon, in my opinion, it ain't so. The only thing I do see is blurbs on the different forums. Did someone start a rumor based on hearsay??????

31 Flavors are neat to look at but I don’t stray from mint chip, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.

Of H powder, those indispensables would be Varget, H1000, 4831SC and 4350.

I count myself lucky yesterday that 10 bottles of IMR 4831 I have passed on before were still there. That should be very useable for something like a .243 / DTAC.

VV and Alliant haven’t shipped near me for a very long time.
