If You were going to build a Hotrod, What Caliber would it be

I have a Remington 700 long action. And looking to build a speed demon. What would you build?

I like shooting light bullets so will not go with a fast twist barrel.

I have these calibers already

22-250
22-250 AI
220 Swift
22-6MM AI
6 MM
6 MM AI
260 Rem
260 Rem AI
6.5 X 284

I would like to build either a 17 Nosler or 20 Nosler. I think with 25 to 30 gr bullets they would be a hotrod.
Unless you don’t want to change a bolt face or running an AR, I would push you towards the BR case for either the 17 or the 20. I have a 20BR that patiently awaits attention.

If I were building a "hot rod" rifle it would have to be the 25-06AI. Take a peep in the Sierra's Reloading Manual Edition VI at the ballistics. One would be hard pressed to outshine that performance.
I always wanted a tight neck turkey so to speak..for the fun matches in Humboldt County under bad weather .I settled on a 6.5 x280 ai all blown out w min taper and 40 deg shoulder...30 in ss hart brl 1-9 twist. If I was wanting a speed demon i agree w Bill ...a .25 with a twist for lighter bullets..blown out with a short neck...26 in min on brl... AND depending on use extra barrels or a reamer to set it back.
That being said..if I wanted to use heavy for caliber bullets... A .22-257. my 6.5-280 is a single shot due to seating...note..I had this built before vlds everywhere ..I have to use up Sierra 140 mks.
We all have our likes and dislikes.....being new on here..there's shooters out there who are beyond Ned Roberts...lots of reading.

6BR the accurate round , why waste bullets and powder .....!
agree.
i would say 1lessdog is covered on anything you could put on a long action. if i had to
pick one id vote 25-06ai. but i dont know if it would fill any gaps...?

needs a short action, slow twist 6bra or 6dasher pushing 55-58gr

I would hate to reload for that many calibers. I shot a 6mm Rem for 35 years for GH. That was all I needed. Now shooting a 6BR Norma for 10 years. Looks like $1000 worth of dies. I like to keep it simple. My favorite part of hunting is just getting out in a big hay field and enjoying the scenery.

Another revived thread eh— i have most of the stuff including brass to build a 257 Wby— so thats the one 4 me. all i need is a barrel- i better git that ordered.

That'd be me, built two of them, 108 ELD-M's at 3425 in a 24" barrel, with outstanding accuracy....

6mm PRC would probably be my choice.

You have some good hotrods already. Several that I have and am content with. Over 4000 isn't that difficult. And .257Wby with 100 @4,000 is doing something, just nasty on impact. But you want small cal., a friend uses .20-250 on coyotes and thing is a laser at something like 44-4500. He likes it.

Been there and done that. Not on your list but I had a .220 Swift AI that was an absolute laser. Would shoot 40 to 65 gr. bullets with astonishing accuracy. Put 5 40 gr. BT’s nearly into a single hole while fire forming at 4300 fps. Accuracy started to fade at about 1300 rounds. Saw most of its work in the PD wars using the 65 gr. SGK . It sure was fun while it lasted.

^^^^^^^^
for a standard Remington long action hot rod, this would be hard to beat.
