If You were going to build a Hotrod, What Caliber would it be

I have these calibers already

It would be just for Coyotes.

Howdy !

Perhaps even before calibre / chambering choice, you already have a pretty good idea on how long a barrel you might want to use ? For coyotes, good gun balance, handling, and portability are likely all part of the equation. Barrel length and weight are major factors in the mix, and perhaps even the effects of adding a suppressor ?

You have intimated some pretty aggressive internal / external ballistics goals. Reaching
ultra-high velocities in the range you desire will become increasingly a challenge, as shorter barrel lengths are considered.

When contemplating varying rifle configurations, consider rifle' " Expansion Ratio " ....

For a given calibre and barrel length, the way to change a rifle's expansion ratio is by changing the chamber volume.

I did one similar to that. Took an 06 and ran it through a 7BR form die FL. Told folks that was my new Giraffe long neck cartridge line. Made a 6 and 22 as well, used a 30-30 case so there was a rimmed variety.

A .22 SLR or a 22 TTH would be great, relatively simple options. They are plenty overbore enough. Between the two, I’d opt for the 22 TTH, although your brass choices will be somewhat limited compared to .243 based wildcats.

What is a TTH made from??

17 stinger from MDWS is one hell of a little hot rod

The standard 17 Remington gets over 4900 fps on the Hodgdons reloading manual...so about 80 fps short of that 5000 fps with standard pressure 50,400 CUP load data... with the right powder it should be possible to get to 5000 fps...if that's a goal.

Do you wish to save the pelts? If so 17 fireball, 17predator or 17 Rem would be on my list. If you don't wish to save the pelt then your options are wide open. Something to be said for low recoil though.

Then I stocked up on 30 gr Berger BTHP w the target tip that were made for the task at hand. No longer available to my knowledge.

I have a Remington 700 long action. And looking to build a speed demon. What would you build?

I like shooting light bullets so will not go with a fast twist barrel.

I built a 17-223 back in 2009. The Yotes here in south Texas hate it. Tommy Mc...... On your list i vote for the Swift..

What powder?

N570.

Ryan Avery took a cow elk with it at 640 yds with it a few days ago. 115 grain ring nose DTACs. I think he backed the load off to 3250. Looks like very good terminal performance. I chambered his barrel and threaded the muzzle. I also loaned him my 300 SAUM IMP die so he could resize the fired brass. He is going to do serious load development for it now.

Details are on the Rokslide Forum. Do a search for 6 UM.

I would like to build either a 17 Nosler or 20 Nosler. I think with 25 to 30 gr bullets they would be a hotrod.
