If rechambering a barrel which br variant would you choose?

There’s better bullets than those fireform bullets…

This is where you should put $$ towards rather than a barrel…..
You should look into Berger, Bart’s, VTac (Vapor Trail), or other custom manufacture-

I’ve seen several factory barrel savage outshoot custom guns.. using custom bullets-

Winter project- tune your gun !!!
This is my opinion, not worth much…
Even the sierra 107 great in a straight six, I’m with you on staying with the current chamber. They shoot great and I have many examples from my savage and criterion barrel at 600 and 1000 yards that prove that out.

Well, there is nowhere to shoot here in the winter. Our range gets snowed in and you just can't get out of town. We still have snow, some of it fell a week ago.

For Dasher it's the short neck. Stay out of the donut.

For 6bra I figure just use the same freebore. Works on the Dasher, and it lets you shoot the Barnes 112, DTAC, or heavier Bergers if you wanted.
Well, I have no interest in the Dasher, so that part is moot.
In the BRA, I have no interest in the bullets mentioned, except maybe the 108 Berger, so 104 freebore is plenty for Me. I’ll have to check My notes and do some measuring, but at this point I see no reason to change My mind.

Kris,
Take your 6BR and set it aside. Get another barrel and have your fun and get some experience as well. Re-chambers can be a pain depending on how your new reamer matches the existing chamber. This way, if anything goes wrong, you always have a known accurate barrel to shoot. Just a thought.

This is the best advice I'm absolutely sure. I think I will buy a green mountain blank and see how it goes. I really would be bummed if I trashed this barrel.

If I'm going to be experimenting I feel like I want to do a "experimental" chamber. I'm really interested in a hemispherical shouldered variant.

Check into the price of dies and a reamer. It’s a very interesting cartridge but it never went anywhere probably for a reason.

I can build my own dies. Do you have any information on the cartridge or know where I can find any? The only information I can find is about the 5mm/35 SMc, and that is very little information although it is listed in my quickload.

I am on my 4th BRX barrel. You can use the straight BR seating die. Resizing, no matter which cartridge, get a custom sizer based on your fired brass. It will be one of the best investments you can make.
If you are only shooting to 600 yds, stay with the straight BR. A bunch of different powders work in in and It's a winner.

I remember when it was being developed. There was a big write up on it in Varmint Hunter magazine a long time ago. Probably late 90’s or real early 2000’s. It might have been over a few issues. I think few guys guys tried in benchrest but it didn’t end up doing anything better than what we already had. If I recall the guy that designed it was literally a rocket scientist and put a lot of time in it. There was a big buzz about it for a short while then it just sort of fizzled.

Savage chambered the 5mm35 for a while.
