To Rechamber or ???

Pay attention to this post.
Clearwater drills the existing barrel, pre laps, reams, and laps. It is now off to the cut rifling machine. The machine cuts the new rifling and has a final lap. It is now off to the lathe for chambering. No different from most barrel shops other than they make sure the extra lapping smooths any machine marks. As far as I know they do not make barrels from raw steel for clients. Not their bag and they don't need the headaches. How many barrel makers out there rebore and rifle existing barrels?

As to the question of value to an original gun.....there are quite a few guns out there that hold far more sentimental value to it's current owner than any dollar value.Yes it can cause a decrease in" book" value or collector value. On the other hand so does putting a new barrel on these guns. When it comes to restoration there are as many reasons why people do it as there are why people don't.For the most part it is people who want a firearm to be returned to factory original condition simply because they can't or won't pay the money for a high condition original.
On the downside there are those unscrupulous individuals ( read dirtbags) who will do anything they can to pass off a restoration as a high condition original. I have unfortanately seen plenty of them.
What this comes down to is buyer beware, do your research and then do some more.
I know this is getting off the subject so I apologize.
Anyone who has restoration related questions can pm me and I will do my best to answer your questions or point you in the right direction.

Thanks,
That's the answer I have been looking for. Now, back to my own little corner of the world...

What am I looking for?
Did my post address your quoted post?

If the shop who rebores the barrel is also going to rifle the barrel, do they uses the processes as the barrel manufacturer? Also, do these outfits also produce barrel blanks as well? That would be interesting to know.

I think I answered your question.
