I'm considering buying a used 6br rifle that is currently set up for mid range. I'm planning to swap the barrel out for a .308 to shoot Palma class, but am curious about options for the used barrel as it would be nice to have a switch barrel system. It has approximately 1000 rounds through it and I was thinking about possibly rechambering it to something like 6CM. With the extended length of the 6CM, would it require setting the barrel back any? Will rechambering claim back any barrel life as the throat section from the 6br would be reamed out? I'm might just keep it at 6br for mid range, but if there's the possibility of getting some extra barrel life AND having a cartridge that can shoot 600 as well as the 6br while having better velocity to a 1000, it might just be tempting enough.

The first 1000 yd event I went to was Hawks Ridge. It was their last IBS event. I shot 115 Sierras (Tubb) pointed with 32.7 grns 203B out of an 8 twist .236" Krieger chambered in 6Dasher. I took home 1st place wood for score in Lt class. There were 60 Lt class shooters.
My point is the 8t is enough for Sierra 115`s and you don`t need a .243 sized case to win. Look hard at a long throated 6BRX or Dasher for your needs

I've shot 115 DTAC bullets from a 1-8" 6BR. They shot well but had no advantage over the 105 Hybrid or VLD from the same barrel. My 6mm Remington 32" 1-8" is a different story. It shoots the 115 DTAC under ¼ MOA at around 3235 fps. The Berger 115 VLD usually requires a 1-7.5" twist. [br]
At only 1000 rounds fired, why not keep it as a 6BR? It should have plenty of life left.
