If money was not an object for your build?

if money was no object I,would buy a guy from harper
have bought rimfire benchgun s from some of the best competitors who were looking to have 3 actions all the same so they were selling the one that was different so that they could replace it with the 3rd same action
sjot really well and put together by the best

just a thought, otherwise I can buy 10 great rifles only to find out that all 10 don’t perform

someone has to get the worst 3 barrels made that year

So I am still testing this new to me scope, been working on it! Shot this group in a calm condition (Slight 10 to 4 o’clock wind, lazy but steady).
Turbo V-2, Broughton barrel, Sightron SV 10X50-60 scope.
Ammo: Standard Plus
Target: 50 Meter UIT Metric Target

Ken,

I've always been impressed with position shooters, especially when I shot three position matches in Germany. No doubt there have been, and continue to be remarkable performances. I watched a girl on youtube shoot an egg at 300 yards with a .22lr yesterday.

I suppose it depends on what precision shooting means to you. Hitting that egg took many shots. The fact she hit it didn't equal precision to me.

Maybe I can talk you into coming to the IR 50/50 Nationals at the Kettlefoot range in Bristol Va.

They are shooting the sporter nats Friday, the three gun nats, Saturday, and the Unlimited nats on Sunday.

Hope you can come.

TKH
Mr. Harper
I would love to attend a major BR match in the near future. I will have to do some research on dates, etc.

The rest of September and October are already booked solid between Scouting and other family events - my season ended early this year and I was only able to shoot a total of two matches. Hopefully more trigger time next year.

With that said, if you head towards Bert's in the near future drop me a line and we can get together.
Best Regards,
ken

I assume your coming to play with us Tony???

Hmmmm, if money was no object, I'd buy a Bertram 61 Convertible flush with Penn Reels and sea rods, load all of my dormant match rifles on it, sail out to the Baltimore Canyon and dump them all in the sea and never have even an ounce of regret while I'm catching tuna and popping dramamine.

I’d probably go with a Viking 61 Convertible.

Prob will be there on Sunday
Look me up, I'll be there.
To the OP's question: I wouldn't say its my dream rifle(s) as I don't really have one but have been shooting a little 100 yd stuff with a Turbo, Ratchet or Muller, TMBR/Rotex combo's the past few years. Also a 1913 Anschutz.
I've been using most all the 50 yd br targets, ARA, IR50, PSL, & IBS 50 yd targets. Its been really humbling & extremely challenging to say the least.
I tend to agree with TKH that its mostly a crapshoot much past 50 yds as far as precision goes. Some of that may be me & the conditions I'm shooting in. Its usually between 30-50 degrees when I'm doing it during the off season. Results haven't been overwhelmingly better the few times over 50 deg. I'd shot.
Admittedly I haven't lot tested for 100 either. I just shoot up most of the test lots that weren't anything I was interested in buying more of.
On a recommendation, this year I'm going to try something a little different & thats to use a 20" barrel,( Douglas I'd just picked up). Not convinced its the answer as the 52's I had & 37]s & 40x's I'd competed against at 100 have all had longer than the std br barrels we see today & have shot really well. Probably better that my purpose built 50yd bench guns.

Keith,

You may be surprised at how the 20 inch barrel shoots at 100 yards. Over the years I've shot a few 100 yard matches and wasn't happy with my results. Last year I put on a take off barrel that I had cut the chamber off and rechambered. It was about 21 inches. Shooting the same ammo I could not believe how much better it shot at 100 yards over my killer 50 yard rifles. I may be all wet but if I shoot 100 yards I'm going with the shorter barrel.

Perhaps it keeps more velocity down range and has less wind drift. Seems that way to me.

TKH

Most of shooting at 100 is how well the monkey behind butt plate can read the wind, break the trigger, and hold the rifle. There is something to be said for better ammo but not a lot.

Never used a tuner before this one and it’s made me a believer. Bottom right, I think I finally got it dialed in. Eley Tenex at 100 yards, 1” orange dots.

I made this tuner for my Anschutz about 5 or 6 years ago. I felt that it worked on an iron sight gun with a 27" long bbl, but after producing so many short fat barrels that produce groups like the ones below at 50 & 100 yards, I think a tuner on a short barreled scoped rifle is just another rabbit to chase. Rimfire shooting of any kind is truly a game of watching wind and pairing good ammo with your rifle.

From what I've read people who own both a custom rifle and an anschutz. Show and talk about the custom but shoot little tiny groups with the anschutz. Just my what I've observed.
