I REMEMBER WHEN

I also remember walking to school, no matter the weather.
No such thing as a "snow day" because the schools were within walking distance. No big yellow buses for streets to be to slippery for.
When the nuns ruled with a metal edged yard stick. ( today a kid wouldn't know what a yard stick was.)
When the local cop walked a beat, and took the bus to get there.
When the neighborhood fire house had ticker tape dispatch and they counted the amount of times the bell rang to see if they had to go.
When neighborhoods had every thing you needed, grocery store, drug store, barber shop, package store, hardware, bakery, no need for a car there were no shopping centers.
The bus to anywhere in town cost a dime ( that we would pocket and then walk).
I grew up in the city so if we went to the woods with our bb guns we would have to find a way to sneak them.

I could go on but it becomes to painful wanting the old days to come back.

The guys at work listen to a gawd-awful classic rock radio station all day long. Got me thinking today;

I remember when I was a high school senior and this one girl invited me over on a Saturday evening. Said she'll cook dinner. I went over there, no one home but her. She says, I'm just finishing in the kitchen, make yourself comfortable. She puts on the new (1975) Bruce Springsteen album and I thought...Yeah...this is going nowhere.

Snipe hunting, now that's a classic. We used to take newbies up to our deer camp for archery and small game when the leaves were still on the trees. On a night you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, we'd walk them 100 or so yards up the mountain to see if they could catch a snipe, burlap bag but no light. They'd sit down on a stump or rock, we'd take the flashlight and walk back to the cabin. After about twenty minutes, we would sneak up real close. One guy would let out a blast on those plastic horns they banned at football games while I would light off a string of firecrackers. Some took the joke and some didn't. The former got invited back. Not so much for the latter.

We would use something that we called a “go devil” that was made using a 5 gal metal bucket with a hole drilled in the bottom and a pine rosin coated string would be tied into the bucket from the inside. Wearing a leather glove you could reach into the bucket and pull on the string letting slip through the glove while gripping it tightly. It would make the most awful sound you’ve ever heard. Unsuspecting snipe hunters were almost guaranteed to crap their pants.

They have it now on orders over $49.00.
I did one of those once for an order that was over $100.00. I entered everything as it should have been, put in the proper code and it still came back that I was being charged shipping. I called MIDWAY to see why I wasn't getting the free shipping, the girl on the phone said none of the items I had qualified for the free shipping. I canceled the order and it was about a year and a half before I ordered anything from them again.

Someone else may have mentioned it, but I remember listening to Paul Harvey tell stories on the radio while at work. Often while on break. What a unique story teller voice.
I had the whole collection of books on tape by Louis Grizzard; wonderful man.
Remember listening to Jerry Clower on Dad’s reel-to-reel; “Sittin’ up with the Dead” was a favorite.

Good morning gang, What we remember are fond memories, of a better time in each of our lives. But the last few months of events make me wonder what our children and grandchildren will have to remember. I`m glad to be blessed with the time I have occupied space here. No matter what happens in the future, my memories can`t be taken away by anyone. Jeff

The memories our children and grand children will cherish are those that we give them, hopefully all pleasant.
As for the part of your post that I am really replying to all I can say is Not True.
There is a terrible disease out there that wipes all memories be it short or long term from you, but leaves you for the most part healthy until you forget how to swallow or in some cases breathe.
Alzheimer's disease is the culprit it robs you and unfortunately your family .It can and does strike almost all ages of people, so far I have lived through this with 3 members of my family.
So I urge all members here and else where to donate to the Alzheimer's foundation for as much research as needed to find a cure.

I wonder how long it will take the commicrats to erase all memory of Donald J Trump ? will we be saying in 4 or 5 years "remember when Don J Trump beat them so bad that they resorted to cheating ? " and we did nothing ??,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Do you ever have that right. I am so angry at the "self identified" republican congress - they sold us out again for personal power and financial gain. Now the CCP controls both the RNC and DNC. Sad, really sad.

I remember buying my first centerfire hand gun. It was a Dan Wesson .357 with a six inch barrel. I took it to our local coffee shop to show the guys. I took it out of the box and passed it around. At least 9 or ten guys got to fondle it.
