I remember when the only thing in the night skies were an occasional shooting star. Now every 15 minutes you can see a satellite silently gliding across the sky or some flaming space junk re-entering the atmosphere. With the Starlink launches the night skies have come alive. I remember when I was 13, I went to the hardware store a bought a box of 50 22lr for 50 cents. $4.95 got you a box of 500. I bought them, not my dad, me.
I also remember when I used to get premium gas in my 1969 GTO for 38 cents a gallon. Regular was 28.

I bought the "goat" when I was 16, in late 1973. I'm 63 now. I still love the big Detroit iron muscle cars. For my 60th b'day, I got a new 2017 Challenger. It's the Scat Pack model. With 392 Hemi, Shaker Hood, 489 HP, 6 speed tranny. Fun as he'll to drive.Popcharlie you must have bought your GTO late in life.
When I had my 64 Fury gas was 15-20 cents/gal., then I bought a 69 SS Chevelle in 1970 gas was low to mid 20's.

I can remember us kids could take, I believe 10 magpie legs, into the small country store and trade them for a box of Remington or winchester 22 shorts.

Popcharlie, I bought the Chevelle and quickly realized what a mistake, Car spent more time at the dealers being repaired than me driving it. I kept it 3 years ( no lemon laws then), traded it in on a F100, car plus $800 and I've been driving Ford pick ups ever since.
My toy is a 2003 Harley Electra Glide Classic FIRE FIGHTERS EDITION 100th anniversary special edition but since my knees let go it sits in the garage unused for the past 12 years, 9000 miles on odometer.
If I could buy a new Ford Ranger with the equipment I want I would trade both my 08 F150 and Harley in on one.

Adjusted for inflation, gasoline is cheaper now, in central Texas.
I remember when cars had no airbags, no cupholders, no back-up cameras, no anti-lock brakes, and no distracting screen -- maybe just an AM radio. People were better drivers then. MUCH better. The age of personal responsibility being a good and necessary thing is over.
I remember when, in the late 1960s, our local (SoCal) movie theater showed a matinee every Wed during the summer, 12 movies for $2.00 total. And we kids were reluctant to go on vacation because we'd miss the show! I remember when the neighbor kids (whose dad worked at Mattel) had Hot Wheels before they were available in the store. I also remember when, a few years back on Antiques Roadshow (US version), a Hot Wheels prototype 'Beach Bomb' (surfer van, top heavy, wouldn't stay on the track) was appraised at $140k. I wonder if my former neighbors saw that episode...
I'm with you on the Pick up trucks. I love mine, can't be without one. I have a Ram 1500. It's a '13, only 68k miles on it. It's my daily driver. I retired in '18, so I don't drive to work anymore.
Nice bike you described. Sorry about your knees. I bet you miss riding.

@PopCharlie Owned 3 GTO's myself. Two were 69's , one with a 400 4 speed and the other was a 400 Ram Air IV with a 4 speed. Beast The other was a 71 with a 400 cid and turbo 400 . Great cars.
Mine was a vanilla model. 400 v8, but auto trans, no tach...very basic, but still a lot of balls. Doing 30 or so mph, I could shift down to S on the auto trans and stand on it. The tires would lite up and the car would fishtale.

About 1962 or so my dad and I were driving down a dirt road South of my home town back in Wisconsin. I was ~13 and dad would let me practice driving on the back roads.
I saw something shiny in the ditch. We stopped. I went back and picked up a almost new Nylon 66 Apache Black. Put an ad in the local paper lost & found. Nobody claimed it. Shot a lot of squirrels with that gun. When I was gone in the Navy, my little brother allowed as it was now his. Never saw it again. About 5 years ago i picked up a almost new Mohawk Brown 66 in the original box, owners manual and factory scope. My bud had taken it for partial payment at his Harley shop. I got it for $250.

I remember driving a 1957 VW bug with the oval rear window to high school. The ball joints were so shot that when you turned left, the wheels flopped right and turning right would cause them to flop back. My father borrowed it one day and blew up the motor. He gave the car to a friend of his. We were pissed.

I miss riding big time. I would ride all 12 months, all ways found at least one day in winter months to take a ride.
My current 08 F150 has 42500 on it and is just starting to get a rust spot on it. Like you I'm retired and if I have no where to go I stay home, keeps me out of trouble.
