I don't get people

My Dad was born in 1910 and grew up on a farm 18 miles east of Bismarck, N.D.
He only went to a country schoolhouse through third grade.
He also served in the Navy SeaBees in the invasion pf Normandy on D Day.
I was fortunate enough to graduate from 4 years of college but my Dad could read, write,
add, subtract, multiply and divide as well and better than 50% of my college graduating
classmates and sure as hell had a ton more common sense than maybe all of them.
Our school system is totally ruined now where the kids are focusing their attention on
which pronoun to use and whether they feel more like a male or female,
Very sad.

Yup, wish I could say I was surprised.

Hate to say it, but it happens everywhere, even the private clubs.

Some folks are just pigs no matter how much we pay them or dress them up....

I wish I had a dime for every hour I spent cleaning up their mess, but I am also betting that I have not done it for the last time in my life either.

No matter what theory is about gates and filters on private club membership, and even with the new-member lectures, I still find myself playing janitor and even fixing bullet holes where they shouldn't be....

Yea it all sounds well and good to blame the younger generation, but this has been going on since I was a kid. Go to the range and see 4 or 5 TVs shoot to pieces and garbage every where. We had a nice spot to go shoot on the side of a canal. Then teenagers would go shoot skeet or trap and stay the night and camp then they got drunk and into a fight and it was gone with a gate put up.
Yup! Then there’s “plain white trash”!

We put cameras and an electronic gate, so when someone uses their unique pin (to them) and trash is left, we can find who did it. Amazing how much stopped when range privileges were taken away from a few.
There was a public range a few miles from me. The club helped DOW clean it up. Took two roll aways to haul all the junk. DOW closed most of it.

I'm going to have to study that idea, the one about individual PIN codes for the gates. The challenge, is we are on Forrest Service Land where there are several other parties, utilities, and authorities who must have their own locks on the gates. The things would have to be Daisey-Chained to where theirs would still work.

The trail cams we set up disappear and are never seen again... If we do that again, I'll have to hide them much better and limit the word that we even have them, or move them more often. It is a pain to need to do this at a private club, but then again so is cleaning up debris from folks shooting at appliances, printers, and general garbage.

We used to accept 1 dayers for a daily fee of $10.00. They would trash the place. In November we stopped that. Since then we have fenced off the range, installed a locked gate, thumb print, code, or pass key for entry. Also 40 individual / family memberships totaling 40 memberships. Cameras and lighting. Once a month work parties, so far, so good. If things go well we may increase the total membership.

We once had a club member - he wasn't poor, but perhaps a bit tight - who used to scour the range for 9mm.

Failed his holster qualification due to a mix of 9x19 and 9x21. Mixing headstamps is one thing...

Our "public ranges" around here are mostly just public lands -- BLM, state and federal forest lands, and decreasingly private but open land. Places that have been close and easy to shoot at have been disappearing like the dodo for several years now; mostly because of of the problem that you posted about.

I've become a rat-fink, stool-pigeon who takes pictures and rats these guys out to the cops. I'll dig through garbage to get names, addresses, any info that will incriminate them.

The ticket that is written to one of these bozo's is pretty expensive, and worth a million to me if I'm successful.. These guys are so stupid, they will often shoot up stuff that has their name or addy on it.

I'll confront them if necessary and take a few pics of the mess and their vehicle and plate #. Haven't had a fist fight or a gun fight yet. I'm getting old enough that the younger guys don't offer to beat my ass as often as they used to.:)jd
