Have to admit the creedmoor does pretty well. I shot at 1000 last year for the firat time and i was hooked. I had never shot at a target beyond 300 before my first f class midrange event. It went well so i signed up for the 1k. Never missed the paper, granted it is huge, but still i scored what i considered well and the rest is history.
Now i did lots of studying and load development prior. But i enjoy the mild recoil of the 6.5 and it does reach a grand pretty easy. Although i passed it down to my son and got myself a 284.

its a custom piece. if you get in touch with travis though @Field & Cave he may be able to make you something similar. I don't think he believes he could sell a life size crow but I know he can if he would just make em!!

I love my model 43 standard in 22 hornet. I inherited it from my uncle in my early teens. I could not get a decent group out of it to save my life. A few years later learned to hand this as my first hand loaded cartridge. A Tim Smith trigger job and it will hold 1/2 to 5/8 groups at 100 yards nominally. Many a woodchuck and crow have been put to bed by a 40 grain sierra with it.

So in reality we are not bashing the "cartridge" we are bashing idiots. Because I have a 308 and a 6.5 "some-thing-or-other". I like both of them as well as my 17 WSM and 300 WSM (Testing under way). But I hate gun store/range comandos that talk a lot of crap but can not do chit. I know a guy that says loading bullets in the cases backwards and they will fly better. Yes rifle bullets. I called him on it and, said so you mean Brian Litz is wrong. He said, "You can't change physics. " I said your right you can not. He then repeated himself as if to imply he was right. I just stopped right there. Can any one top that?

There are members on this forum that believe the same thing. While responding to a previous post I had stated that I don't consider shooting at 100 yards an indication of a rifle's accuracy. Responders jumped all over me.

And, just like golf, the sport is full of casual participants that are convinced you can buy a better game. Great equipment will perform like crap if the user has no discipline.

Yeah, I think I can top it. Last summer I overheard one of the range “gurus” espousing the benefits of mixing powders to obtain the utmost in accuracy. Sad thing about it was that he was telling guys new to reloading. Us old farts just kinda looked at each other, rolled our eyes, and kept our mouths shut until said “guru” left. Then we told as many of the new guys just how crazy and dangerous his advice was, and to stick with the reloading manuals. Unfortunately, some had already left. Yeah, I’ve heard some head scratchers, but this guy took the grand prize.
well sirs. I can tell you I shoot 100 and 200 yards quite well with my 6PPC and my .30BR. And I can shoot quite well at 1000 yards with the same two cartridge and with no change in scope settings. All I have to do is crawl out to the 800 yard line and let ‘er go.
All that aside, to me accuracy means three things (shooter, equipment, and cartridge) have to be attuned to the situation. Silence on the firing line is golden, too. I tend not to practice that rule, though. You just have to pick the right combination for what you’re shooting at the time. BBs and pellets at 25 yards and loudenboomers at 1000 yards.

Reading all this makes me realize just how fortunate I am to live where I do here on the central Orygun high desert. When I want to range-test my handloads or just do some casual range shooting, I load up my BR Pivot Lite and head out to the outback in the sage and junipers where "my" range is located, about ten minutes from home.
Except for my own gunfire, it's quiet. No keyboard commando's, no silly kid with his AK or AR spewing brass all over me, no stupid questions or bragging comments like the "good at 25, good at 1,000" crap either. Just me and my guns. Or the occasional jackrabbit or coyote, maybe a mule deer or pronghorn eyeballing me from the sage, but NO range idiots.
I am truly fortunate, and I don't take it for granted.
