Couldnt make this up

Basically there are three types of people that use firearms:

1. Shooters

2. Hunters

3. Plinkers

There is a vast difference betwixt #1....and the other two!!

It always amazes me how many deer and elk are taken every year, yet maybe 1% of shooters I see at the range are capable of 3MOA or better.

Having hunted all my long life I would just say that when you see someone with an animal down, take a peek at where they were hit and how many times. 3MOA might be stretching it for most of them.

Or the one who shot his deer at 800 yards (he knew the range because the landowner said so) with his Weatherby vanguard in 30-06 and factory Federal 125 gr(cuz they're really fast).

After about a half hour of him bragging about the shot to my office partner, my BS meter was done for. I started visiting with him about how far he held over at that incredible distance, he mentioned it was only about 4" over the back (because Weatherbys shoot really flat you know). My office partner is a great guy, but very gullible. He loves to shoot, but factory rifles and factory ammo is all he has every used, a box or two for the hunting season, not year round.

I just couldn't take it and began the take down procedure. Pulled up Federals website for their claimed velocity. Plugged it into my Sierra 3 ballistics program (kinda dates this story) and proceeded to show him in black & white the facts of ballistics. Got a bit quiet around then. His shot was maybe 350-375, still a very good shot, but don't try to BS someone who has done a lot of prairie dogging at 600-1200 yard distances. Eventually they reach their threshold & the BS has to be shut down.

Funny thing, he never came in to brag about his prowess again. Incredible how a dose of reality seems to cut right through the BS.

Yeah, there are two things that male hunters brag about, the second most common being distance of the shot they took. I used to be good at estimating range by sight when in the Army but now I use a Leupold range finder. I just drag it out and show them the true distance, hopefully before they take the shot. It's just great fun:) Incidentally, it is not unusual for people to greatly under or over estimate distance in the field, especially when there are deep terrain features or slopes involved. As most long time hunters know, it takes a lot of practice to become proficient at estimating distance. I still like to estimate before verifying the distance with the range finder.

I say the same thing brother.....like people that fish and a fisherman.....When the Oklahoma wind is howling I like to go out and try to learn reading the wind....I call them shooters days. I am a man that loves to shoot but a shooter I am not.

I met some nit wit in the woods with my buddy who is a jokester. The guy had an old single shot shotgun with no bead or sights. He had a deer call around his neck and asked my buddy how to use it. He grabs it and starts playing it like a kazoo. The guy walked away blowing into it trying to imitate what he heard. The guy was an idiot and I walked away laughing so hard I couldn't stop. It was kinda mean but funny none the less.
