Howa 22-250 14-Twist Bullet Choice?

I have a Howa M1500 22-250 with a 1/14 twist barrel. Problem is that I can’t get 55 grain ammo to group at 100 yards. Any suggestions

As others have mentioned, with your 1-14" twist, even 55-grain bullets are often 'iffy'. In my 1-14" Ruger #1, 52-grain Hornady BTHPs shoot really well and Hornady 52-grain AMax (now ELD-M) are amazing. Both shot over CFE223.

I'll pile on with a "mee tooo." Over the years with a number of 22-250 rifles, I learned that 55 gr bullets don't work as well as 50's - in my experience. YMMV. 50 gr Hornady flat base spire points are my go-to bullet for varmints. I use the SP flavor in 22-250 and the SPSX in 222 Rem. They have accounted for a lot of ground squirrels and rock chucks.

For hunting I've had really good luck with the 52gr Speer FB HP Varmint bullet in the 22-250, in fact I use it in my 222, 223, 5.6x50R Mag and 22-250. Inexpensive, quite accurate, reliable on coyotes and easy to find.

The 52gr ELD-M with either 4895 or 414 always shot very well for me in 14tw 22-250's. The Sierra 53gr MK is another bullet that is not only easy to load for, not seating depth sensitive at all, but they always shoot very well.

I also had problems with getting my Remington 700 varmint with 1 in 14 twist to shoot 55 gr bullets, tried Sierra, Hornady, 52-grain Amax, Nosler, Speer etc. Finally ordered some JLK 52gr flat base high bc handmade bullets. Bought them years ago from skunkworks. JLK is still in business but no longer sell the 52 grainers. I have 1250 of these left if your interested PM me and i send you some pictures and info.

I was always a Hornady fan, until the blitzkings came out. My 22-250 all shoot the 50 gr blitzkings. I have a 22-6MM AI with a 1 - 14 and the 50 gr Blitzkings shoot very very good. I also have a 6 MM AI 1 - 13.5 and the 55 gr Blitzkings shoot very good. I cant find any other bullet that will shoot as good as the Sierras do

Try the 50 gr. V-Max, or, 52 ELD-M's, ( these 2, "BugHole" for Me ) 52 or, 55 gr. Berger Varmints ( Flat Based ).
Most 50-53 gr Sierra's ALL of these, shoot very well, in my 1-14 TW .22-250, Rem 700 !
LOTS of GOOD Choices,.. Just AVOID any of, the Longer Bullets,.. .800 long,.. Max !
