Max bullet weight for Remington 700 22-250 1in 14 twist

One thing this old thread made me realize is that I’m getting old way too fast. The last time I messed with 22-250s the 53 V-Max wasn’t even born yet, glad my 22-250AI is a 12 so it is time to dust it off and try it on some southern ground hogs with the 53s.Last time I shot a 22-250 it was with the 50 NBT at South Dakota pd’s with a healthy dose of H414.Funny how the old reloading manuals listed more stout loads than today’s manuals would even consider.Looking forward to rekindling my relationship with my 22-250s.

I had to smile when I read this. I picked up a good looking remington 22-250 new in box and went out to shoot it. I have a great load that i shoot in a mossberg mvp with 70 gr berger. I put into remington and at 70yds the bullet was stuck on metal plate side ways! I cant believe remington never changed there twist rates on 22-250. This rifle will not shoot any bullet over 60grs.

I have always said the faster you push them in a Remington 700 22-250 the better they shoot. When I shot 40 gr Vmax and 52 gr Hornady match HP. It was tiny little groups.

The 22-250 was built as a speed demon not a lobber. Personally I hope Remington stays with the 1 - 14 twist in both 22-250 and 220 Swift

I understand your point but wayyyy back when the 22-250 and 220 Swift came to be they didn't have slick high BC bullets like they do today. Example, even if some can get the 53gr Vmax to shoot ok in their 14tw 22-250's it's at a reduced BC that bullet needs at least a 12tw to get the full BC of the bullet.

I'd like to see a 12 twist become the "standard" for 22-250's and 220 Swifts in place of the 14tw.

I was looking at a very flat shooting rifle out to 400 yds with no hold over for Fox and Coyotes.

Now I have a 22 - 6MM AI and shoot Sierra Blitzking 50 gr at 4350 fps and hold on fur to 475 yds.

What twist are you running in the 22-6mm AI?
