22-250 Bullet Choice

Never used them. It still says on their site they should be used in a 1:12 twist or better regardless if you had success with them. I used 55 grain nosler ballistic tips in a 1:14 and they did not stablize at all in colder weather. The 1:14 twist is not a good choice for a 22-250 IMO.

1 in 12 is an unusual choice of twist for a 22-250 (usually factory barrels come in 1 in 14, and custom jobs often go for a fast twist, like 1 in 8), but there is no reason why it shouldn't shoot the same 53 gr and 60 gr bullets as did your .223 and do it well.

14 Twists

55g Sierra flat base spt
bthp
btsp
Blitz lead tip
semi point
All stabalize well in a fourteen twist.

Hornady 55g sp with the cannalure is on the tougher side and make for excellent deer, hog, and coyote bullets, very accurate in my rifles.

53 g Hornady V max is a 12 twist bullet
55g Sierra Blitz king is a 12 twist bullet

60g Sierra HP and 63g Sierra will stabalize well in a 14 twist

60g V max is a 12 twist bullet

Barrel twists can vary, which is why there is some confusion. A stated fourteen twist may in fact be a 13.5"
twist, etc. Like wise, a stated fourteen twist can be a 14.5" twist.

Played with several from mid 80's on, they tend to be long freebore. It has been tough to beat a 55 gr Nosler bt and the most varget you can safely run. For more expansion effect the 50 gr vmax with H4895 or Benchmark. Seems like I usually settle on col of 2.375 with the Nosler. Mine were hunting loads, mostly for fur harvest.

There has been another thread on here about shooting the 53 grain V-Maxes out of a 1-14 twist 22-250 a while back. I was very excited to try them in my Remington 700 22-250 w/a 1-14 factory barrel. So far, I've not had much luck. I'd love to be able to shoot that bullet, as it's my favorite varmint bullet in my Remmy 700 223( it has a 1-9 barrel). I'm still trying, but, might have to stay with the 50-55's. Keep the info coming Gents!!!!!!! Idaho-45

My 14 twist Ruger loves the 40 gr Vmax over a stout charge of varget. Somewhere close to 4K. Easily under .5moa when I do my part. Violent on critters. I’ve tried 50’s with no luck at all.

Sierra sbt 1365
Hornady 55 vmax
Rem 700 VS 22-250 h&s precision stock 1-14 twt loves these two
Friends Ruger 1-14 hates them
Sierra are my go to !

I have A Remington 700 with 1/14. It has a long freebore. I shot it for a year experimenting with different loads and always loaded close to the lands. I was never satisfied with the results. Several weeks ago I decided to run a ladder test of Coal. Started at .020off the lands and went backwards in .010 jumps. I found that each time I backed up .010, the groups got tighter. Finall stopped at .120 off the lands and shooting now shooting consistent 1/4 groups. I am shooting Bart's 52 gr bullets. I tried every manufacture and weight from 40 gr to 60 gr before I settled on Bart's. When I bought this rifle I called Remington and complained about the freebore. Their response was to load close to SAMMI specs and it would make me proud. I should have listened to them. I have other rifles that won't shoot unless they are almost jammed on the lands. Every one is different. Berger 52 gr match target bullets shoot well also. By the way I do not load for high velocity. I tried H380 but switched to Varget 35.5 grs. with either Barts or Berger.

YUP,.. The 55 BT's, DIDN'T work in MY 1-14 TW Rem. .22-250 in, the WINTER, either ! Beautiful, 3/8 to 1/2 inch groups at, 130 yards in 70 to 80 Degree's then,.. YUCKY groups ( about, 1 inch ! ), in November / December ! Turns out, my BT's measured .817 Long,.. YIKES !
Will shoot them up, in my 1-7 TW,.. AR-14 !

During my groundhog days the Remingtons used 52 & 55 grain lacking nothing. Never shoot heavier.

About to start loading the 22-250. It's a Rem 700 1:14 twist barrel. What weight range bullets am I limited to with this twist rate?

Buy berger 52gr varmint FB (flat base). Best bullet I ever found in a 14 twist 22-250. Killed varmints to deer with them easily. Every coyote I ever shot dropped dead. Stupid accurate.
