Howa 22-250 14-Twist Bullet Choice?

Give the 40grn v-max, 50grn vmax, or the 60grn SP a try. The Sierra 60grn HP shoot well too.

Mine likes the 55gr FB Bergers with IMR4320, at least until I run out of it. 50's and 52's are probably the next best to try, and if you really want to see if a 55gr will work, the Sierra 55gr HPBT has been accurate in every gun I've shot them in.

A 14 twist barrel is just a little too slow for the long sexy 55's and that long sleek H53 VMAX!. Flat base 55s are fine. Most BTHPs are OK. So if it has a plastic tip, it probably is too long. With the old style bullets it was safe to go by weight. New sleeker bullets it's a length "thing"

I had the same problem with a vanguard 1/14 22-250, it would stabilize a 55 flat base (varmaggeddon) but not a Sierra 55 blitzking, ended up using the Berger 52 but I would use one of the other recommendations in the 50gr range because the bergers are high for a varmint plinking gun.

55g Sierra bthp is loved by a 14 Twist, I shot a lot of them in my howa years ago with a hot load of Win 760 and a 210 primer. 55g Sierra flat base is a winner also for the Howa where I shot a max load of IMR 4895 with a federal 210 and a max load of IMR 4064 with a cci 200. My howa had a very long throat, so it takes a bullet that is jump tolerant, which is the 55g Sierra bthp and the sierra 55g flat base.

55g bullets that are not liked by a 14 twist are:

55g Sierra blitz king in some barrels
53g V max
55g Nosler ballistic tip, in some barrels
55g Sierra btsp is not liked by some 14 twists, I have had

52gr berger flat base was that absolute shiznit with the 14 twist I had..

Darn long throat in the Howa needs a bullet with more bearing surface, my hunting partner had one also, his was the same. I think that we paid $159 for the barrel and action.

As the howa barrel got well worn, we both went to the 63g Sierra with it's long bearing surface and it stabilized well with a hot load of IMR 4350 and federal 210. Funny you remember such crazy stuff.

60g Sierra shot very well in the 14T, but they pencil through coyotes.
