How to Lower Powder and Primer Prices?

Oil companies do not drill unless prices are sky high--just saying Go Drill will not make them drag the drills out of the storage lots--- just saying....

I agree, I’m glad they’re opening up for drilling when prices do go up but at the moment, companies aren’t going to do anything at $70/bbl.

I think when all the slackers that say they are going to quit shooter finally do and start golfing , and fishing that will be what helps the prices go down. Less demand!!!!

When I lived in CA there was always somebody trying to organize a boycott of gas stations or whatever. I heard it all the time, "If everybody stops buying gas for a day then something...". It's a waste of breath because even if everyone went along with it they'll just buy an extra gallon the next day to make up for it because the actual usage (demand) hasn't changed.

Just like you say, it's the same with shooting. There's millions more shooters and they're shooting more now than ever so demand from shooters isn't going to change appreciably. As long as the Ukrainian war continues the large scale demand for components continues on. When it's over, prices will probably drop but they're not going to stabilize at 2019 prices because of 25% inflation over that time period.

Break even for most integrated oil companies is about $50/ barrel

That's great but they still aren't going to invest the massive capital needed to develop new projects to barely break even. I'm staunchly in favor of drilling I just don't think the economics of it work right now until the price goes up.

Here in WNY we are p[aying $4.00 a gallon for home heating oil, that's more than over the road diesel! PCP, remember the $1000.00 compressor!

I went to 6x47L and 6.5x47L because they were so efficient. l am now shooting 223 and 6x223 for the same reason. Have gone to 2 shot groups when working up loads, but it still takes 100+ bullets.

Stopped a Fur, Fish and Game in Ashland, OH on I 71 on the way home from FL. They had CCI primers for $70 and BR2's and BR$'s for $125. I passed on the BR's. Bullets were more expensive than Blue Collar. They had a fair selection of powder; I bought some Ball C for $44. That's cheaper than mail order after you consider shipping and Hazmat.

Florida, $400 a night on the beach and $2.00 oysters, tough to have a meal for 2 for $100, nothing is cheap! I shudder when I hear that 50% of the population don't have $500 for an emergency. I am a little to the right of Bill Buckly, but don't believe any child in America should go to bed hungry or cold!

Almost happy to be 85.

In a nutshell; here is the deal. Double the price of powder or primers. You need only then sell half as much to enjoy the same profit margins. Hodgdon is the worst thing to happen to the free market powder industry ever. Ever! E-V-E-R!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely. A key objective of buying/merging is to improve profitability by eliminating costs associated with duplications in both product lines and operations.
Lack of competition from buying other lines I'm sure is a much stronger reason . When only one or two sources are available the resulting monopoly helps keep prices up.

Just remember when George Bush jr was president we ran out and bought up reloading supplies ..........

I'm still loading 9mm and 5.56 for $3-4 a box of 20rds easily ........
308 just the same for hunting rifles.got a lifetime worth of 308 ,9mm,45acp. For pennies compared to today's prices ...................

It can happen again

I never thought I'd see gas at $2 gallon again happened twice.

Never under Democrats being in office

It's coming again I hope

Probably to much inflation now but here we go I'll take what I can get when got the right people in place.might take a minute but best only chance we got.

I need to call Eric trump and get together on lowering reloading components.lol

Eric is an awesome guy!

Maybe.
That depends on the market share of the two companies that merged and the ability of remaining competitors to bring on new production capacity.

Honestly just keep voting Republican it's really that simple.
Demand and impulse buying goes away

Not sure we'll see prices of years ago but I bet it can get alot better and somewhat comparable...

I just know last time we was self reliant on oil the economy was hammering....hmmmm cheap goods for everyone

It all adds up and starts somewhere.

Like I said before it's all a trickle down effect

Every single time since I've been alive that gas prices have been low so have reloading components

So has everything else

EPA, Taxes, LOCAL building regs, health insurance costs, ATF all play a part in ammo/component manufacturing in the U.S. We need new and expanded manufacturing here in the U.S. under less restrictive conditions.
Increase supply, or a better in country supply chain depending on your party. Foreign supply has too much WEF, globalism influencing price and production.
