how many shooters own a 6 br that won't shoot good groups under 200 yds

Do you know anyone that is a better shot and could shoot your rifle?
Also, someone that could load for you or make some of their own and see if it's you or your loads
before looking at the scope or rifle setup.
As @Northridge said, what are the groups doing?
You have some of the top builders and shooters here.
Don't let your ego get involved if you want to solve the problem.
If you can shoot, and this has been a problem from the start of this
rifle, guessing as others, it might be a barrel thing.

I have the same issues with my 6BR because I only have access to 300 yards at our range. I tried almost every bullet and powder combination trying to get tiny groups at 300 because we shoot a varmint match and small groups is what it takes to win it. After speaking with Sierra they told me that their 107gr match king are just starting to "lay flat" at 300 yards, I switched over to a lighter flat base bullet and BAM there it was,... tiny groups at 300 yards. Currently loading Hornady 95gr SST's and they shoot awesome for me. You might try some?

gonna try and combine answers to everyones questions.

yes other shooters have tried to get good groups,the barrel has never grouped from day one, my lapua brass was new problee 8 firings now, i have shot other peoples reloads with barts bullets several types, scope is tight, action screws torqued,firing pin cleaned, my brass prep is good bump ect,using whiddon dies.

also my friend has a remage we bought this barrel and his barrel at the same time ,same specs, hes a good shooter, and does his own reloading and his gun is mirroring my gun in groups at 200
now as to groups on 5 shots, 3 will be close to the same hole 4 will be out a 1", 5 will be out 1" in a different spot and this is not in order, 2 may be the shot out or 4 its not 3 in and 4, 5 out is really does what it wants too it seems (random)and my friends gun is doing the same thing with his bullets reloading style, (remage)

my other guns I shoot in f class are 6.5x47 lapua and .223 rem they both shoot excellant and my reloading is the same for them as well

I have had several br shooters say they have owned barrels that just wont group at 200(everything is a group but not a consistaint small group) but will at 600( x's and 10's) or at 1000(not tested) for score that is
humbly thoughts?

While doing load development at 100 yards with a 6br, 3 shot groups in a powder or seating depth test that's completely not what the gun likes will still group under .75"...and more than half is under .5". You'll start to see groups cloverleaf and then literally one hole when it's good. 200 yards isn't much different if you are doing your part. For example, with almost a full grain difference in powder while doing a ladder test at 500 yards, 4 6BR's that I've done load work up on all shot less than 1.5" during that test. Apples to oranges, but its a representative example of this caliber's potential. I would imagine most shooters on here would mirror that result.

So to be shooting 2"-3" groups, there is something markedly wrong. How experienced are you reloading and doing brass prep? The sporadic nature of the patterning after what you mentioned still to me seems like there is excessive runout, a bullet running into the donut, etc. Especially if you were excessively resizing through that 8 firings. For all we know, it could be a bad barrel. But shot out barrels that I have seem still shoot 1" at 100 or better.

very experienced with reloading and have all the tools to know my bump is correct,full lth sizing and measuring seating depths powder charging ect,
so hince my pain!! this should be simple load development ! and dont forget my brother in laws barrell is doing the same thing same hole some times then out the group then back in the group very random

this past sunday at 200yds with the b in law, him shooting his own loads and me with mine both got the usual nothing consistant groups again that is match worthy (controlable)
another friend loaned me his 6 br and i proceeded to shoot 20 shots on target that a penny would not fall thru!
so I took some of his bullets and ran them thru my gun and got a perfect triangle 1" between holes I think that is as good as this barrell will do, not match worthy, my .223 will out shoot the br easily
oh and also familer with donuts there is none
 
Might be leaning towards the barrel. It happens and you might have been
the unlucky one that got it.
Sold a Savage 12 in 308 that wouldn't shoot better than 1 moa, tried everything.
Sold the whole rig
I had a bad scope once, shot 2 in one hole then would move and shoot 2 more into another hole.
Drove me crazy, changing powder weights and bullet depths, until a friend suggested it maybe the
scope. Sent it back and sure enough, the reticle would shift, doesn't sound like thats your problem
if you have changed scopes.
Some times you just have to cut your losses and move on

Heres a pic I got today from a customer that I’m trying to help tune his rifle. Told him to bring his 6BR up to 2800 to 2820 and seat the bullet .006 into the rifling. Not bad right out of the gate. 5 shot groups at 100 with 105 gr Hammers.

I had recently built a 6BR on a model Seven action with a 22" Bartlein #3b Barrel 7.5 Twist. I too had issues tuning a load in with this barrel until I found the bullet powder combo it liked. Once I switched to 95gr Sierra TMKs and IMR 4064 it was like flicking a switch. I really wanted to shoot a 105s but it consistently shoots the 95s into the .3s so I can't complain too much, especially for a coyote rifle.
 
Is it possible that you might have a "carbon ring" build up in the throat or leade ? A few years back, I had this problem with a 6BR, & it would throw fliers until I removed it.
 
If you add up all the components you've wasted in 8 firings on your brass chasing that bad barrel, you may realize the wisdom in trashing something that doesn't shoot right out of the gate.

Every barrel I've ever had either shot great right away or it didn't. I could never find a satisfactory result from the ones that didn't and now I'm a bit wiser. When I can't get something to work within 300 rounds, it's going to be replaced. I'll qualify this with: you have to know what you can do. When you know that a good barrel and your shooting and reloading techniques will produce 0.375" @ 300yards repeatably with a good barrel, and the gun you're shooting is struggling to sink under an inch at 200. It's the barrel, not you.

yes you are right I should have pulled the rip cord a lot sooner! I have learned a lot from this problem.
