How Close is too close (rear sling stud placement)

What’s your opinion to this placement? Will it hold fine or cause issues down the road? I doubt I’ll use a sling much, but like this particular gun… does it kill long term value? It’s a shotgun not a rifle

That's too close to the end of the butt. Getting it too close can cause the stock to crack. It may be nothing to worry about but it will devalue the gun. Looks like a Browning with English stock. Collectors don't like guns with add ons or modifications.

I don't collect anything, especially firearms. For me, a firearm is a tool. While I don't abuse a tool, I use it, extensively.

If a sling enables me to use it more effectively, then I will without hesitation add one. When I hunted turkey in the big woods of central PA, my shotgun had a sling. Trying to climb those mountains without a slung firearm is unnecessarily painful. Even worst, if you bag a turkey, try hauling it out without a slung shotgun.

Just remember, we are going to leave all this stuff behind someday. Use it and enjoy it while you can.

It's too close; my opinion. Can't figure out why anyone would want a sling on an upland gun.
I've been putting slings on my shotguns for a long time now. Upland, waterfowl, predator calling, whatever you're doing with a scatter gun, a sling can be handy. If ya don't like shooting with it, roll it up and stick it in a pocket or game bag.

Those Special Fields looked so cool that I bought one as soon as they came out. soon learned that I had the wrong kind of face for a straight stock. Must be my rugged and handsome cheek bones. jd

I think it looks absolutely fine. I see no issue with it at all. Sharp lookin hunting stock too.

I have pointing dogs, my late season semi-auto always has the sling on it. Cold ,windy days I can hang it on my off side since I have a leather insulated mit on the that hand. I have a Rem special field, probably won't put a sling on it, but you never know, as you age priorities change.
1.4" from center of sling stud to edge of the wood on my factory sling equipped Rem 1100 special purpose(3").
