F-Class is not the enemy

The only moaning I've ever noticed is some don't like muzzle brakes because of the sideways muzzle blasts..
Some of them were f class shooters.
I too shoot f class and don't take any notice..
I've used muzzle brakes for 15 years..
If you don't like the loud noise of a firearm going off..
Get another hobby...
Its not the noise its the dust kicked up them… it never happens anywhere I shoot F_Class because not allowed by rule in F Class

On the range we usually shoot off grass firing points that are more mounds..
The barrels overhang the downslopes so we don't see dust.
I had a pepperpot style muzzle brake and we shot once on snowy firing points and I was blasting snow everywhere..
Not a very good brake for a 30-06.

The opinion stated in Post #91 is somewhat prevalent at a number of ranges. I hear F-Class shooters referred to as “unclassified plinkers” or “ long range plinkers”.

Can’t we all just get along.
I've never seen or heard anything like that and we have a number of dedicated sling shooters at some of our matches. But then I'm am not nearly as well traveled or connected as Tod is (and perhaps yourself) when it comes to shooting. He's quite literally traveled the world shooting. I do like the "long range plinkers". Yeah we're plinking half MOA at 1000 yards since at some of these matches the 10 ring is of less consequence than the X ring.

Some of us laugh about it and embraced the name. Even thought about getting shirts printed with the target on the back with shots hitting in the 7 and 8 rings.

I've seen both sides of the animosity, but I just try to remember the good stuff. This will be my 50th year of competing in High Power with sling, and now, because of physical limitations, only with iron sights. I was amazed at how accurate the rifle/ammo was from the bench guy I was scoring for at the Sierra Cup - and told him so! After the awards ceremony, a couple of F-Class guys stopped me and said they wondered how I could shoot the scores I did without a scope or rest, and I just said my wife loads good ammo and a little luck. We had a good exchange and went on our merry way! This is the way it should be! :D

From the perspective of someone who shoots: Palma, F-TR, F-Open, LR Benchrest, SR Benchrest. Not the greatest at any of them, but am a bit better than average and enjoy the challenges each brings. Have competed in 7 LR World Championships in Palma and F-TR.

In my experience, it is a people problem, not a discipline problem. There are Palma-Donnas and F-Divas, most all of which are middle-of-the-pack shooters. And it comes from BOTH sides. Maybe it's their general lack of success that brings about the crappy/arrogant attitudes. They want to be front and center, but can't earn it with a rifle, so take it out on others. It needs to be challenged and aired-out, lest it will just continue.

For eons, the natural progression of rifle plinking/hunting/competing was: Air Rifle > Smallbore > Service Rifle > Match Rifle > Prone Rifle > Death. F-Class was originally created to fill the gap between Prone & Death. Unfortunately, the original concept of F-TR went off the rails and devolved into what it is today. It is no longer a gap filler between Prone & Death, but an entirely different sport. Many have skipped the "proper" steps and went straight to F-Class. This may grate on a few of the Sling shooters.

Stirring the pot is one of my favorite pastimes, as is speaking up when circumstances warrant it. It has been pointed out to me that it is not necessarily conducive to making new friends, but that has never been a priority. Someone has to do it. Years ago, someone was handing out stickers, "Death before F-Class". I don't care who you are, that's just funny.

Straight talking, there. We should keep perspective of our commonality and not forget that in your progression list, mastery of air gun precision is considered worthy of inclusion in the Olympics, small bore, barely, (if you’re willing to ski) but from there forget it, we precision people, all disciplines, literally devolve and age away in leaps and bounds from traditional definitions of skill and ability sports such as the Olympics would apply. Embrace the fact that none of us are even standing on our own hind legs - and our only real audiences in this pursuit are each other.

Good Post. I heard about a 1000 yard Palma Match in CA last year.
They thought about F/Class Shooter and latter decided No F/Class Shooters.

My step brother and I would fight.. and fight and fight.. it was a mess… one time my mom opened the kitchen drawer .. grabbed 2 butter knives and gave them to us… “I cant stand this any longer.. go ahead and just kill each other!”… we looked at each other aand broke out laughing never really fought much after that…
Maybe these rumblings arent that bad after all

Excellent post Lane.

It probably comes down to a specific group feeling threatened far as their discipline losing shooters to another discipline. But you will always have that crowd in each discipline saying their discipline is the hardest to master. You all want to shoot a challenging discipline try shooting bullseye. You will walk away from that pretty humbled and thankful you shoot a rifle discipline. I know I do and I never talk smack to bullseye shooters lol.

Gary,

I moved to Texas last year, about 3-1/2 hr from Bayou Rifles. I have shot in three of their monthly matches (Nov, Dec, Jan) and will shoot again this coming Sunday. I am really enjoying it. If you want to see what the range is like, watch any of the F-Class John & Erik Cortina "F-Class V2 Finale". These challenging matches are shot there, at Bayou Rifles Juliff Range. The monthly matches are very well run and all the shooters are very friendly.

I am 80 years young.

Alex

(Alex just won F-Open in today’s 60 shot aggregate at 1,000) - congratulations, It was great meeting you. You are a force of nature Mr. M!

All in good fun you understand. :)

I did not follow the "proper" steps. I started with F Class and went to sporting clays and rimfire matches. I blame it on bad influences in my life. One of them is our illustrious administrator. Don't judge me bro, I'm the Victim here. :)

Still shoot all three though.

I hope all three of them enjoyed themselves. :)

Wow, Interesting thread I don’t know the difference between F class, BR, sling, or any other competitive shooting sports. I just like to shoot all types of firearms and have fun while doing it with my buddies. One comment I hear from other shooters on the range is they always hear us laughing while we shoot. To me that is the biggest reason I enjoy my range time.
