how accurate is your savage really?

How about this? Whose factory rifles shoot better than a Savage, dollar for dollar? Or at all? Does it matter if in the wind, with bad mirage? Just because I shoot a Savage and you don't means you'll beat me? How's this. I invite anyone to bring $1,100 worth of their big money rifle and beat me at any range. Be that 1/3 of your scope. Maybe your action or stock? For the money I have in my rifle and scope, I'm very happy with how it shoots. Under a half inch all day long at 100 yds. Some groups much better. People who take "all day long" too literally need more things than Savage rifles to pick apart.

All hail Savage!!!!!

Or.......how about this.....take your rifle to an IBS, NBRSA , or UBR Score shoot ( there is several held every week-end through-out the country), enter in the Factory Class and see how well you do against other factory guns (and custom actions). You actually shoot along side with all the other guns in relatively similar conditions,in 6 separate matches that may stretch to a good part of "all day long", under the same TIME restraints, scored by experienced scorers using the proper measuring tools, in a SAFE environment. You can even peruse through several years of archives (at least on the IBS website) to see how you fared historically for that particular range.
Perhaps you will then learn how "wind and mirage" are such a big deal to rifle accuracy.
For those of you who only shoot in select conditions at protected ranges.....you have no clue as to what accuracy is in the REAL WORLD.

I was the biggest Savage fan(still like them). Then I got a BAT. Well now my Savage does even come out of the safe. I don't think the problem with Savage is the accuracy but how rough the action is. I shoot 600 and 1k br and I'm a runner. I can run my 5 in about 15 seconds and with the Savage it's about 45. But I have shot a bunch of good groups at 1k and 600 with her. Just no comparison between a Savage and a custom. So I guess if your a picker then a Savage would be competitive.

zfast, I agree it's to dream for , compared to some other places. That does not mean that it doesn't get up at all. Manatee is like no other range, you shoot there long enough, you learn the common conditions throughout the year.

I sighted a rifle in yesterday here at my home for my cousin. A Savage I put together to take to Blakley, GA. next weekend for 600 yard FTR. 96 degrees by 11 a.m., humitity terrible, so so wind, couldn't believe the mirage. We have been having steady rain daily. Blakley will test your skills. Only shot 100 yards, stock Savage with my old L.E. 26" 1-10 twist barrel, 6 shot group, 1 was a sighter, took 4clicks out, next 5 for group, total size of all 6, O.D. .929. I said good enough for my cousin to shoot his first 600 yarder. The only thing from being bone stock is the B&C medalist the barreled action sits in.

Even I would never make a bold statement like, my dogs bigger then your dog. ;D Too many guys out there that can shoot anything you put in there hands, I'd hate to get beat by my own rifle, if you know what I mean... ;)

I never ment for this post to turn into my savage will beat anything you can bring to the range. I was just curious what the better shooters and reloaders are getting from their savages. for you guys that shoot savages and complain about how rough it is.. dip a q tip in synthetic motor oil and run it across where the bolt face rides in the action. I had a Guy comment that my savage is smoother then some customs he shot. I cannot make that statement as I only ever racked the bolt of a couple.

A 7 page pixsing match that solved nothing. A savage or rem can be made by a competent gunsmith to run with any custom. People shoot customs because they can afford too not because they have to.

Be careful what you wish for. I have several BAT action rifles. None of them cost me more than 700 bucks. What about meeting me in Raton when the current matches are done and we will see. If you beat me you will have something to talk about. You can say you beat someone with a custom gun.

any brand can be made accurate by a gunsmith- customs should be accurate from birth
I think the OP was referring to box stock savages which shoot very well at any price
this is not an isolated thread on this subject
I see similar threads on several forums
they always seem to stir things up
cheap rifles aint supposed to shoot like that
Savages are not manufactured or finished very well at all
but they do shoot as well & in most cases better
than rifles with much better finish & much higher price
which by the way several firearms manufactures are using barrel nuts ,2 stage triggers, & floating bolt heads now
very similar to Savage ?
IMHO it must be the design that makes them accurate -
(even though I don't like the rear bolt shroud)
I love the accu trigger design -I prefer it over the custom triggers I have had on my Rem-chesters
some have said its the barrel- that make savages more accurate- maybe so
when switching barrels on my savages
I have noted that the same accuracy will follow -or stay with the barrel when installed on a different receiver
I think the main reason I choose to shoot Savages is -they fit my budget
and they are more accurate than I am
so I would be unable to appreciate a more accurate rifle anyway
I cant say that about the rifles I used to own that I could never do any better than moa with
they have all been replaced by Savages -the Po Bo's custom

First, I am not a great shooter but I shoot a lot. The best 100 yard group I have ever shot was with a Savage model 12. That group was with a 22 BRX and it measured .0087"

In a sanctioned BR match, that group you're claiming would have beaten Mac McMillan's longstanding world record. (Which was just broken; see here if you're curious: http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?87309-0-0077-group!!!!)

$700 in today's dollars? How long ago were these purchased? Why isn't everyone shooting custom at $700?

The relevance of this is hugely questionable. A BAT action will cost $1,025+ by itself, based on BAT's published pricing. To suggest a BAT-based rifle can be had for less than a Savage is spurious at best. ::)

Wrong. The custom-built actions are superior. And for a Savage or Remington to even approach a custom action's inherent accuracy, you'd probably spend as much or more on the factory action, so why bother?

A 200$ bat action
200 $ stock
200 $ barrel
150 $ trigger
750 total
I just can't seem to get under 700$ for a custom Bat ;D

I'd like go see this crowd discussing politics or religion. 7 pages of crap for a brand name....this had been a hoot to read.

I'm enjoying it. ;D It's like watching Dem's and Rep. fight over Obamacare.... or Christ.... We all keep coming back.
