Hornady one shot lube

I agree with F class John. I clean my dies out at the end of each season. Which reminds me now that I’m done for the year I need to do that. I use it quite liberally when spraying my shells and I wipe each one off when sized. I have sized many thousands of shells and have never had one problem, I really like the stuff. It’s really the only thing I buy from Hornaday anymore.

Works great. Been using it for many years. Whenever you hear of a stuck case I would bet the people did not follow the directions and let the cases set for a minute or so so the propellent dissipates. Do that and not troubles.

I used it for many years, and liked it. You do have to wait for it to dry. I have a plastic tray I used to put new cases in, shoot the cases, shake the tray and hit 'em again, let them dry. I've also made the 10% lanolin and 90% of 99% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle, works about the same, a little tackier, and definitely need to get it all off the cases before you load them.

If you ever call a die maker, they will suggest issues with their dies is from using some other companies lube. Forster didn't like Hornady OneShot, they will recommend only using their High Pressure oil.; But Redding will state Imperial Sizing wax is the best in their dies, Hornady of course recommends One Shot... I'd try them and see what works best for you.

With all of them, it's good to clean out the inside of the sizing die once in a while, (I use 91% isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip), to keep it clean and free of excess or dried on lube. If you are switching from one lube to another, it's a good idea to re-clean the inside of the die before starting with a different lube.

And after I size, rather than wiping them off with a towel (which is a PIA) I put the brass in a screen colander in the kitchen sink, run hot water over them, use a little Dawn, and rub the brass in my hands until I get all the lube off, shake them in a folded towel, cookie sheet at 170 degrees in the oven for 30 minutes, no more lube, ready to go. Of course, there's probably good reasons I'm no longer married...

I’m a Imperial wax user but you guys mentioned to not mix lubes. I have stuck two case lately, and both times it happened when I decided to clean my dies. First time was with WD specialist, cleaned die with it and patch out the excess, Imperial lubed case immediately locked up. Second time used Hoppes 9 same way, nearly stuck and barely got the case back out. Now when I clean it’s only with Gun Scrubber and blown dry, this has been working.

@Kracken McGraw if you have just cleaned your die and the working surfaces are squeaky clean, the first case after the cleaning can be lubricated normally, but then you would want to coat the working surfaces of the die ahead of that case.

With a dry die surface, even if the case is normally lubricated, if the shoulder diameter has to be worked part way up the die, it acts like a completely dry case. At least some lube has to be ahead of that diameter on that first pass.

Yes thanks that’s a good reminder, I know I have done that in the past as per the instructions of old dies. I really don’t know why I ran into this bump in the road from changing things up, I sure won’t be using two different lubricants in that pressure chamber of the FL die again.

It's often over looked by many but there's a HUGE benefit (in my opinion) to using One Shot to lube pistol brass before a loading session on a progressive press. It significantly reduces the amount of force that's needed on the press handle which really helps out after pulling on the dang handle for 500+ times or more at one sitting. It makes my process much smoother when pulling the brass back out of a sizing die, even if it is a carbide (no lube) die.

I just dump the brass (cleaned) onto a large pan and run my hand over them to orient them flat on their sides. Then I spray them very liberally (like biden giving out "free" money) and shake around a bit before dumping them into a case collator. I do not intentionally get spray lube in the case mouths on pistol brass because it makes the ball powder stick at the belled case mouth area. I don't have this issue when the cases are sprayed while lying flat on their sides.

To add on to what others have said about how they use One Shot I use it like this. Throw brass into large zip lock bag in a single layer, spray with one shot, roll around a little and spray again and dump into cardboard box. Repeat. I usually do hundreds at a time and it makes short work of it.

BEWARE!!!!
There are TWO versions of One Shot.
One Shot case lube, as I have found, is the Best and easiest case lube out there.
One Shot Gun Cleaner & Lube is the WORST case lube out there.
Once you start reading the labels BEFORE you spray your brass then you won't be cussing One Shot. :D:eek:
I prefer the black can...lube and cleaner.

I'm not a large volume reloader, when I find a load my rifles like I usually load 50 then shoot those and load another batch. I have used One Shot case lube for several years and never had a issue, just followed the instructions.

I don't put it on very heavy either, just spray the cases down from about 2 o'clock, rotate the loading block 180° and repeat, let them dry for a few minutes and start resizing. I do clean my resizing dies and spray a shot in them from time to time.

I have a RCBS lube pad and lube but would rather go to the dentist than use it.

This and $1.75 will buy you a cup of coffee in some places.
