Hornady classic L n L shell holder retainer clip.

The shellholder retainer clip on my Hornady L n L classic press broke. I ordered the replacement from Brownells but what they sent me is completely different than the original one on the tank. I called them and they insist it’s the right part….but clearly it isn’t. Called Hornady and not getting anywhere.
Hoping someone from the forum has one laying around I can buy from them?? Or point me in the direction of someone that may be able to help. Currently, I had to tape the shellholder lightly to the Ram, but clearly that’s no way to get accurate sizing….and my new Arkco “Hood” press has yet to be ordered because it’s technically still out of stock. For reference, it’s item #8 in the schematic picture shown below.

Dave I have that press.
I also use hornady dies.
The clip on the press and the clip that holds the collet in place on the seater dies is the same size.
But the wire gauge is heavier on the press clip.
Neither offer that much resistance in my opinion but the seater die clip will work.

I think those spring clips are at least somewhat universal between makes. The loop clips around the ram to hold it in place, and the angled stub provides the retention for the shell holder. You could probably whip one up in about 3 minutes if you have the right size piano wire.

Temporary fix is to insert the shell holder and pop an O-ring over the whole thing.

Personally, I'd call Hornady. They'll probably send you a couple for free.

That is exactly what they did. I’m intrigued by the o-ring solution though. Do you have a particular size that works good? I want to make sure that the shellholder can still free float

Sorry, Dave; I've never had to resort to that. O-ring would keep the shellholder sot-of-centerd, with the elasticity allowing for more float fore/aft than the normal wire clip, I'd guess. Side to side float would be the slot in the ram.

At a guess (I'm at work, so can't measure an actual holder), I'd think that a 1/2" (might be smaller) ID ring with a 1/8" cross section would be close. That would put it in the #206 range. Googling "O-ring chart" will get you all the specs to bounce against the actual dimensions of the installed shellholder.

I’ll take some measurements today from the Ram and I have to hit the hardware store for another project later so I’ll see it they have what I need
