Here Comes Beryl!

because since the storm formed they have been telling , 105 million people in the path of the , "storm of the century!!!!" never before has a storm formed so early in the season! it's gonna come ashore a cat 5! Texas is flat a drop of water and it floods, just like ALL the Politian's they piss all the money away on social programs and NEVER build for bad weather. HELL 3 weeks a go or there abouts, Houston had heavy rains and it flooded, They are very dry in Texas just like else where in the west, do the idiots in charge do anything about capturing any of the water in reservoirs? No they stand there as it drains into the gulf and then bitch about no water. I sat thru a FORCE 5 TYPOON IN Okinawa in the 70's, Winds in excess of 200 mph , In a Quonset hut. Thats a storm. this was an over hyped nothing burger!
Which one was it?

It’s 9:30 in the morning, I would say we are at the height of the storm. It is moving fast, which is great, less chance of flooding.

Power is out, but our generator is running, as fast as this thing is moving, it might be over by noon.

Considering how bad this storm looked out in the open Gulf, as far as hurricanes go, this one is pretty mild as it hit the upper Gulf Coast.

I did not hear once the forecasted storm going into Houston was to be anyplace near a CAT 5 and definitely not a storm of the Century. It was an early storm. You must be getting your news from some sort of extremist cable outlet. None of the legitimate news organizations indicated what you're saying.
It was a serious storm that caused flooding and over 2 million people lost power.

You don't live anyplace near Houston do you? Houston gets rain fairly often and floods somewhat frequently. Texas has dry areas and it has areas that get rain often too. It's a big state and has all kinds of weather.
I have no idea what politics have to do with this storm.

The entire greater Houston Metro area is basically a reclaimed swamp. It’s the arm pit of the United States.

Everytime somebody pours a concrete slab, it makes the flooding a little worse.

The only legitimate reason to live here is it is a great place to make a living.

I have relatives who live there, and yes, they are involved with the oil industry which has been nice to them.
I live in Fort Worth and been there a few times. The two things I think about are humidity and it seems like it rains there a lot. Fort Worth seems to get hotter and I wish we could get some of their rain.

We haven't heard from them today and I hope they get power back on soon. They'e living on generator power now. They live on the Bay and lost part of a retaining wall, but their dock survived and Ok otherwise.

Going to get pizzled on from the remnants tonight and
tomorrow. We are so thick with humidity up here, It may
be more then a pizzle. Hoping it tracks a bit more north
into, and above Lake Erie.

Jackie......I hate to see anyone's good tree topple over but I
see some smoked brisket in it's future.......

I hope it moves on and everything’s OK for all your sakes. And my daughter is going there tomorrow for work.
I’d be checking with her contacts in Houston… still over 1.5 million without power! My son’s business in downtown Houston just had power restored…

I think that had a hint of tongue in cheek.......

Our Shop is on generator power, but it’s only a 150KW unit, it will run enough to keep some men busy.

I’m just glad the storm moved on through, flooding was minimal compared to Allison Harvey, and Ike.

I am heading to Main Iron Works in Houma Louisiana tomorrow for three days to do a Thordon bearing conversion on a 2000 HP Kirby boat.

I just got power back after 2 days, A/C is a must. I had a small amount of roof damage from a neighbors tree that leaned over into the east eve of my house. However, for a small cat 1 storm, I have never seen so much damage. Mostly from the wind pushing over BIG trees. Most every tree I have seen down, the ground gave way leaving the root ball showing. We have had over 40 inches of rain already this year and the ground is saturated.
Much more powerful hurricanes have caused much less damage here. I have seen quite a few of these here since 1947. The first one that stuck in my mind was Carla in 1960.
Jackie, you may remember the Brandy Lane and east/west Jayhawk subdivision close to the old Lake Houston
rifle range. It is right south of Buckhorn Lake. I drove through there this afternoon and it was an absolute disaster from all the trees pushed across the roads and on houses.

Another Houstonian here. No major damage to the house but no power since the storm rolled through early Monday morning. Luckily we purchased a generator and portable AC after the derecho two months ago so we are a little more prepared.

Our club (Bayou Rifles) has two ranges; one that's in the Addicks reservoir has four feet of flood water, and the other down south (Juliff) has a bunch of trees across roads but is otherwise mostly ok.

My Wife just called, (I’m still in Houma Louisiana), and said our power just came back on and the generator shut down.

I guess I will do a complete service on it when I get back, as it ran continuous for around 100 hours……..

and wait for the next one. The storm season is just starting.

My wife is on her way to Vermont today to visit family. They got hit with six inches of rain with lots of washouts on steeper road and driveway grades. It missed us here in Maine except for a good shower yesterday morning and afternoon.
