Henderson Trimmer

I give a plus one to a a Giraud cutter especially if you shoot multiple calibers. I really like how quickly i can change the case holders to go from Dasher, Bra, and GT using the same cutter head makes for super fast set up. I would highly recommend getting a whidden click adjust die ring for ease of set up.

I have used Forster trimmers/collets for years. I am currently using a modified Forster trimmer that will consistently trim to .0005 without fail. While using this trimmer (actually 2) over the last 30 years I have had enough time to experience the collet system vs shell holder system. Something to consider is squareness of your cut. The way the Henderson is set up for speed, doesnt take into account the one issue with a collet type system. The collet in my experience will not always clamp the brass square. On a manual trimmer you can run it in, start it over the mandrel before tightening the collet. This help ensure square. While watching videos on the henderson with the shield, I dont see how a clamp collet system will consistently cut square, as it is all about speed. Please explain.

X47Mike, that is exactly my experience . (As I posted above) . The Giraud gives a perfectly even uniform cut everytime. Not the case with the Henderson.

im thinking of giving this on a try indexes on the shoulder and has interchangeable collets

Betcha it ends up the same place mine did, right in the bottom of the fricken trash can! My Henderson trimmer saved my marriage, helped my kids become straight A students, helped my baldness and trims, chamfers and deburrs my cases perfectly! That’s how good the Henderson trimmer is.

I love my henderson, but if you are running more than 2 thou of interference fit you will likely get some contact with the pilot.

i take extra care when aligning my cases on the collet, i kinda do a prealignment step, it takes longer but i rarely get even just a little contact this way. sure as HECK beats doing it the old way by hand.

with some creativity with delrin or something else, there is probably a way around the neck contact issue.
You can order custom pilots from Forster. I’ve seen a number of people do this to solve your problem.

I have the gen 2 from Henderson and love it. I set it in a cookie pan and clamp it to my bench, the cookie pan catches all the brass filings and is easy to clean, just dump and wipe out over a trash can.

I really want one of these...at least I think I do. Seems I'm always trimming PPC and BR cases to make them just so even though they don't grow much. Looking to make a good decision since this is a big ticket item for me. Who has the scoop on the good, the bad, and the ugly?

I think I have trimmer envy.o_O

I have one, they are very nice. I will say that if your brass doesn't grow, it's a challenge to set it up to deburr and chamfer without making the brass shorter than it already is. So to clean up case mouths, I just go back to my RCBS prep station. Much faster and easier.
