help with savage f class 6br deeeep throat ?

have new savage 12 f class 6br,have sent back to savage to be checked, seems to be deep throated. they told me all is perfect, chamber to specs. Its hard to talk to anyone who is in the know at savage! here is my problem ?? or not ? have OAL gauge, 107 Sierra measures 2.510 OAL of tip. my math may not be excellent, but that leaves me with .086 actual in the neck contact plus about .185 boattail non contact. How much actual contact is needed ? 105 A max not as bad,or berger 105. Im not a big fan of jumping ! Any suggestions ? thanks SDNEIL

My friend has this exact rifle, and he uses the 105grn A-Max out of his Savage F-Class 6BR. His OAL is .2.330. The jump is .010 in his rifle. His rifle likes the 105grn A-Max and it's grouping in the low .3's at 100 yards.

Sounds as if you may need to consider having the barrel turned back and rechambered. Love Savages - hate Savage barrels.

Might contact Mr Larry Racine http://www.lprgunsmith.com/index.htm

He has done work for me on two Savages - a Palma gun that started as a BVSS and a LRPV that is now a switch barrel gun with two barrels and bolts: 6mmBR Krieger; and a Savage 223 factory barrel that he diamond lapped. He does great Savage work!

lynn thanks-- Sierra 107 s are measuring 1.225 pluss or minus a few thou. Is .086 bullet contact in neck enough ? thats just touching. Almost afraid to try it,but probably will.Anybody with similar findings ? SDNEIL

Before you do anything drastic, why not try jumping the 107s and see how they do? I believe this site's cartridge guide suggests jumping the 107SMK .025'. And I saw a post on this forum where someone tried jumping the 107 .020' and said they shot the best groups they had ever done.

As far as OAL gauge, what type are you using?

FWIW my Savage with a Shilen 6BR loves 107gr SMKs jumped 0.020' to 0.025'.

They run much better than Berger 95VLDs in the lands.

js223-thanks I am using a Hornady OAL gauge,Iam sure the modified case is going in all the way, bolt closes on the case easily. If I jump 107 .020 still only have .106 contact in neck,is this enough contact ? SDNEIL

Relax, Jump'm they may shoot better. In my Palma rifle I can set 155 SMK's anywhere I want and jump them 0.060'. If your going to jump them, get them off 30 or so. Berger recommends to test 40,80 and 120 to start. I've always tested at 30,60,90.
