Help a Yankee move south!

Being from the south, kinda, I know some of the rules.
Like the difference between a yankee and a damn yankee is clear and is absolutely vital information to know!!

A yankee comes south to visit, but a damn yankee, comes south to stay!

Haha! Just kidding! I love my yankee friends! ;):D:)

You know, it's not about whether people "down here" don't welcome new comers - it's about the change that comes with a glut of people. People who often want to change our way of life for instance. But, for me, it's about something else and that is seeing beautiful land and country areas destroyed by being cut up into apartments and $350K homes built on 1/4 acres. I saw it all today around Summerville SC. Traffic that makes an old southerner pull his hair out. Roads being widened. Crowds of people.

I wish everyone who wishes to move finds what they want. But remember, negative comments are not aimed at you personally; they are aimed at the horrible change that occurs in areas where we have lived all our lives.

It's really going to be fun during hurricane season.

I know this all too well as I watch my family farm of nearly 100 years being developed all around me. I bought what I could but I'm too old to take on a few million in debt so I'll just have to make due with what I could buy. Yes, most are people from NY and Cali moving out in the country here in Ky. Some fine people but also some pure arsholes too.

I used to think that to be alone and left alone, you had to find a lonesome place, move to someplace kinda crappy. You know, no competition for space. Then I drove thru Chicago...so much for the crappy part. Full of people, despite the crappiness.

Then I thought maybe Ill move someplace with few idiots. Then I looked at stuff on the internet and realized idiocy isn't place specific.

I thought I'd move to the north...but winter and my old bones don't mix anymore.

I thought I'd move south, but I see that numbers thing and realize the odds are I'd move and there would be a bunch of relocated stupid people there...and I'd be one of them.

I thought I'd move west to Colorado, but Kalifornia beat me there.

If I go east, well except being on the ocean it just gets worse than here.

I am now thinking I am too old to go anywhere, and eventually I'll die and I'll get my nice place all prepared for me. In the mean time I am just thinking I am passing thru.

My little rural town here in KY has undergone a huge and heartbreaking transformation due in part to the influx of refugees from the greater metro Louisville and Lexington areas. Both cities are suffering crushing crime, population expansion, and strangling traffic issues, as well as skyrocketing real estate costs/taxes.
Speculative land brokers descended upon the Counties surrounding both Lou/Lex and have developed most of what was once fertile farms and countryside.
The tentacles are ever expanding and now our green spaces are paved over, crime, homelessness, drugs, and just about everything associated with a “City” are degrading the quality of life we once enjoyed.
Quite a few Industrial parks, and warehouse/distribution centers surround most of our I-64 corridor exits.
I wanted to move further out, but even a small plot of land now costs more than our humble abode is worth. Only consolation is I will not see the worst it will get.

Up in northern New York we are blessed with vast expanses of undeveloped protected public land. Some of the most beautiful sights in the country in the high peaks, filled with God fearing conservatives. But the concrete cesspool a few hours south controls the whole state politics. So we’ve been experiencing the outside influence for a long time. There’s an ongoing effort to split NYS into three autonomous regions. It won’t go anywhere because NYC needs our tax dollars to pay for all the free stuff, but you gotta try! I can sympathize with many of the posts on here regarding the changing demographic of rural areas.

Same nonsense in Utah were the wilderness crowd has “taken” over some great places and made them available only to the those can afford to get there financially or physically. Same has happened in other areas.

At 83 I'd like to go some where that there are NO people but I'm to old to go anywhere .

I'm very glad I live around some good farmland, hopefully it will never be sold but who knows, I have a subdivision not far from me but I can't see it and a couple houses at 1500 acres in front and behind hope it stays that way

I’m a “Yankee”. I’m as conservative as it gets. Don’t stereotype. I’ve met plenty of liberal southerners. They’re everywhere.
Well said, unfortunately the most populated areas in Maine over rule the other 90% of the rural parts of our great state. I have a fish camp in upstate NY on Lake Ontario. This area is very conservative, no need to lock the doors in the camp or remove the keys from your car but, like Maine the cities vote left.

You should have considered Alabama.
Conservative, no tax on retirement income, no property tax over 65, low crime. It's a nice slow pace. Like any state, just stay clear of the big cities like Birmingham and Montgomery.
None of this is true it's a horrible place to live the no state tax on overtime really sux :p

The end of April the wife and I are taking the camper and going to look in the Sanford, NC area for real estate, that would put us about halfway between Durham for the excellent Cardiac Hospitals that my wife wants for me and Coleman creek gun range for my priorities. Any info on Sanford and the gun range would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
