I am in Vale NC. WNC foothills. Remember, NC is 2 states in one. Research triangle east, clearly up north liberals or old school Dems. West of that it gets way more conservative, home town, biscuits and gravy pass the 5.56 if you please. With the exceptions of Charlotte, which has bled south and north, and Asheville, though beautiful , might as well be Seattle. Stay away from college towns, Greensboro included and look at small country adult communities. Hendersonville comes to mind as well as Newton . Learn to enjoy white liquor, draw your vowels out. Eat grits and livermush. You'll be fine. I welcome you sir.Hi all, Let's get the hate messages out of the way first, ( I am from Massachusetts). My wife is planning on retiring after the first of the year. Thinking of mid to western North Carolina, possibly Tennessee. South Carolina or Georgia are not out of the equation either. Not Florida! Here is what we are thinking maybe an over 55 community, or nice neighborhood not looking for a lot of land or maintenance, Have a heart condition so don't want to leave her with a lot to maintain. Now the most important part, gun clubs. I have been shooting firearms as far back as I can remember I am 65 Have been an NRA pistol instructor for the past 14 years and 6 years ago my friends and I started shooting 600 yard F-class. I would like to be within an hour drive of a club that I can join as a member, not interested in a pay as you go range. Would like a club that puts on frequent matches 600 yard & or 1000, always willing to help out with matches. We plan on taking a ride down that way end of October and getting a feel for the area. Thanks for any input or suggestions. Just please don't tell me to stay in Massachusetts, this state is to liberal for me!!!!! Thanks Again Dave.
Coors-May l suggest you take the train/AMTRAK. Go as far South as you can. Then rent a car and see all those interesting towns/places you saw from the trainFirst of all I would like to thank all the folks on here with their suggestions and support. My wife and I plan on taking a drive down the end of October and have a look around this trip will mostly be in the western part of N.C. Using the term Yankee was my attempt at humor, I don't consider myself one. I am a Veteran with a traditional upbringing brought up with guns, hunting and fishing. My mother doesn't like Trump but I still talk to her, after all she is 94 and lives in Florida. For those that don't like northerners the Civil War is over, however for the next civil war when our government chooses to attempt to take our guns away, regardless of what you may think of me I will be the one standing by your side defending our rights and will have your back. Thank you all again Dave
That's not a bad idea, but I am an ex-truckdriver and like to drive.Coors-May l suggest you take the train/AMTRAK. Go as far South as you can. Then rent a car and see all those interesting towns/places you saw from the train
I could live just about any place God knows there are a lot better places to live than Massachusetts. My wife not so much, I am having enough trouble trying to get her to retire right after the first of the year.Come on down to arkansas and have a look around. Youre welcome here.

Choot’Em!North Carolina got interesting over the weekend, my oldest Daughter woke up to a visitor.
Forgot about Hickory. They do the egg shoot every spring, which is pretty popular though I've never been.
