Hard Times

Well in this age of who would ever thunk it!! My powder selection is thin, stumbled across some BL-C2. Has anyone used BL-C2 in Triple Deuce? I have BL-C2 , CCI 450's, Win. brass and some Nickel Rem. bullets range from 40 to 52 gr. with more 50 gr. than others. So does anyone have a pet load using this?

Jeff,
Can't speak for .222 BUT my rifle (a Savage 223, VLP DBM) loves 52 gr Bergers (+ Sierra 53 FB's) being pushed by 28.7 gr BLC-2 at 100 yds. I shoot strictly paper anymore and use Lapua casings and Federal Match Small primers. Just thought I'd mention it.

According to hodgdon the 50-53 grain can use 22.0 to 24.5 for the 53 and 22.0-25.0 for the 50 grainers.Start lower and work up.

I have used prob 5- 8 lb jugs in my lifetime of BLC2 in .223's, AR and other w/ anywhere from 50gr. bullets to 69gr. Very similar case capacity, should be excellent for the 222

Back "in the day" with my '70's era 700 BDL hvy. bbl. .222 I shot my first dots using 22.2 of BLC-2 with 50 gr. Hornady "SX". I tried it because I read it was a prominent powder used by Benchresters ( once BLC (1) was unobtainable). Like everything else, the burn rates change ....and I find N133 my most accurate .222 powder these days.

Thanks Fellas Well right now BL-C2 is all I can find right now. Maybe sooner or later powder availability will turn +o normal.

Jeff
Ball C2 is a great powder for the tripleduce. Even the BR shooters in the 60's used BL-C2 in these .222's. I use it all the time and wow does it meter great I can get .02using a Harrels measure and a GemPro-250 scale.
I load 24.0 to 24.5 with 52/53 SMK. Shoots 1/2" at 200 using 1968 Rem 700 Varminter special with blueprinted action & trued chamber.

Ha! Here it is 8 years later and I find myself in that same circumstance. I could wait until I find some Varget, I guess, but I have a brand new Savage LRPV in 6br that needs to eat.

Roll time back to the 1970's and I was shooting another Savage, a 112-V in .22-250. It would shoot into 1/2" at 100 yards with a 50br Speer or Sierra flat-base spire point, into 3/8" when I was having a good day.
