Guys you are not gonna believe what question the doctor asked us today!

Can you really trust a non-shooter??

I’ve met a couple of (dozen) new MD’s this year, never had that question. My cardiologist takes his 8 year old and 12 year old shooting, my heart surgeon goes hunting on all his vacations – you just can’t trust someone that doesn’t shoot. Oh, my Ophthalmologist says he can’t fit my shooting glasses unless I bring my Striker to his office with me.

As part of a post surgery pain management program I had to meet with a psychologist. He was checking me out to see if I am a professional "druggie" wanting more pain meds. Anyway he asked what I do for fun. Told him I shoot handgun at a local range at least once a week. Boy did he start writing on his pad at that point. Since I was already in the water, I told him I have lots of guns, used to shoot competitively, and that I am a hunter. That ended up being almost a full page in his yellow tablet. Haha. I suspect my pain program is going to be limited to aspirin from now on.

My doc asked me if I would mind signing his March/April 2012 copy of American Handgunner since my guns were on the cover. I said sure! He whipped out a marker and I signed it for him with a smile. LOL! I do love living in Nebraska.

just ask the Dr if he or she has any medicine in the house. its a matter of child safety.
Just a thought. If you get asked a question like this try waxing poetic on some completely non-related subject: music you like, your garden, bicycles, computers, etc. If the medical person asks again, just continue on the unrelated topic. If they ask why you don't answer the question about guns, tell them that you thought since they had shifted to a non-medical topic you naturally thought that they were just engaging in polite chit chat.

FWIW,

This is nothing new.. I recall my visits to the pedatrician with my kids and they were asking for the info then. My kids are now 19 & 21.

They have also asked if I am in fear for my safety in my home (spousal abuse). I always laughed and replied, "Hey, I am 6'3" 250# and my wife is 5'2" 130#. Of course I am, I am married aint I."

I live in a rural part of NY but I'm not naive enough to believe that when push comes to shove most Dr.s are gonna do what there told! I have already heard a politician was shown the monitor when the screen was showing the Dr. there party affiliation and personal info.. My guess with this administration the vaccinations will be numbered and the government will tell which to give who, (IRS policing healthcare) scary but I would guess everybody on this forum is and has had data collected on them! I also wonder when Obamacare does go in full stride will we be able to pick our own Dr.?

yes liberalism is slowly but very effectively creeping into all aspect of our lives and i fear that we cannot stop it. a friend, a physician and fellow varmint hunter tells me of a recent event in his office. some managed care programs send him questionaires that he is to use and comply with when interviewing patients. one such was to inquire into the SEXUAL behavior of teenagers!!! he sees patients for skin problems! if he sees a 15 yr old girl with acne in the presence of her mother and proceeds to ask about her sex life, number of sexual partners, protection during sex, etc he could be accused of being a sex pervert or worse! the questions had nothing to do with acne, but the program had the requirement(questions about guns in the household were also included). he told me he contacted the managed care coordinator and explained his situation and said it was like carrying on a conversation with a brick wall. he informed this individual that he would not ask ANY question not required for him to treat his patients for their specific problem. he fears that obamacare will demand this info, esp firearms, under threat of goverment penalties. many of his fellow physicians are calling it quits and retiring early. i really fear our country is lost.

I am currently in medical school and have been doing a lot of patient/physician scenarios using actors. We have to ask a lot of questions that seem to have no bearing on the condition at hand. It is quite hilarious, the class is set up by a pHD with no medical experience. All of our supervising practicing physicians bitch and laugh about the questions the director is having us ask. It literally takes 20 minutes to get through all of the questions. Asking about firearms had been mentioned but is not in the standard questionnaire...yet

Had to go in today to a different place than I normally go to. The nurse asked me that question. I just said. I wish I was a Dr so I could afford a gun. She just looked at me like I was crazy.

This questioning comes from some whacked out so called research done by some government agency. The American Academy of Pediatrics, decided to recommend to it's members that they question all their patients parents on the presence of guns in the home. Not all members do this, but if your doctor does I would guess they are more than likely anti-gun. Precede as your situation dictates.

My wife was asked that question at here last appointment at a DR. that she had already been seeing. The reason for the new questions was because redoing computer and records, so everyone was treated as a NEW PATIENT, which cost us extra (pissed about that) : My wife promptly said, I believe that is none of your business !!! That made my day.
