Guys you are not gonna believe what question the doctor asked us today!

All,
Today me and my wife took our new baby (born 6/24) to the pediatrician. A nurse came in and started asking the normal questions and then... She asked if we had any guns in the house! I was first thinking how dare they ask this and then I replied that I decline to answer that question. She replied with "its about child safety." I said it has nothing to to with child safety and what I have in my house is my business. End of questions...

People I believe the liberals have came to roost and we are sitting under the tree. Has anyone else witnessed this? They dont ask if we have knives deep friers or lead paint so why does if we have guns matter? Matt

I have witnessed it. Was asked the same thing at a routine physical. I declined to answer and switched doctors. This was 3 years ago or so. Not had another ask anymore. When the lady asked me and being surprised I asked why, she said it was something they had to ask now. I knew that was BS.

I haven't been asked, but it may be part of Obamacare. My 3 main doctors are hunters and shooters, guess that is a good thing about Texas.

Yeah, that's like the mini van I bought last year. I went to a dealer in Hammond, IN (drove over an hour to get there) who had what I wanted, told them I would pay cash and to fill out the paperwork. They brought the papers over an I filled them out and handed them back. They brought them back and said, "You forgot to put in your SS number." No, I didn't. You don't need it. "Yes we do. We have to run it to see if you are on the terrorist list." ????? I told my wife (the car was for her) to get up, we are leaving. We went down the road to another dealer and bought the same car from them and the SS number was never mentioned.

yup,the dr tries to start a casual friendly conversatinn and works it in! wife was talking hunting dogs on her check-up then firearms came up and wife said yes. then was "how many"? she caught on and refused to answer and made them scratch that last question as IT DOES GO IN YOUR CHART! they did remove it.
total BS! and the DR said they get that alot to scratch that question out!

I remember being called in to a meeting with my daughters school principle and guidance councillor here in Australia. She had said something about Daddy having a gun or going shooting. They told me it was unsafe to have guns in the house and that I would be responsible if she brought the gun to school and shot somebody. I explained that she was only 5 years old and couldn't left my big heavy competition gun. "OH", so its a big one is it, you will have to get rid of it now you have kids. When I told them I would be keeping ALL my guns they said they would have to inform the police. I let them know they can call them anytime they like and they are quite welcome to come and see me about it as it is totally legal. I never got a visit from the police.
Her new school in a more rural area is very different as she regularly shows pictures of me shooting or brings in medals or badges and the teachers ask how I have been going.
IF my doctor asked me if I had guns, I would say I sure do, a few of them. My shooting partner is a doctor though so I think if he asked if you had guns, it would not be for bad reasons.

all my doctors know. in fact i have done the atf forms for my one doctor. had to ask (beg) my cardiologist for permission to go to perry 6 weeks after mi. family required it. all seem to be cool with my shooting, but i live in a pretty rural area. not one has asked how many. i wonder if the fact that i teach hunter safety, atv safety, and teach/coach air rifle, smallbore, and high power would go over in a big city practice.

This is not all uncommon. It is not connected to Obamacare. They are not asking about other dangerous things in or around the house that are far , far more dangerous to kids than guns..., like pools. These are responsible for far more kid deaths than guns. The singling out of guns is misguided and I refuse to cooperate by not answering the question. I am interested if anyone has answered YES to the question and seen what happens next.

It goes without saying that if you are seeing a mental health psychiatrist or psychologist, don't even mention guns, or you may find yourself on a list of people unfit to own a firearm. I believe here in CA, that number is 40,000 and the state has added more enforcement officers to visit these people and collect weapons. Another reason in CA to buy all rifles and shotguns before January 1, 2014, when the state starts keep permanent records of what you own. They already do that now with handguns.

Yes i've been asked it. I replied no it's in my pocket and that was the end of the conversation.
If you said that in my hospital some of the other MDs would go get their sidearms out of the truck and show it to you. I practice in a gun friendly environment. ;D

I had a doctors visit today. She said you have gained a pound and half since your last visit. I did not tell her I had my J frame Model 60 Smith and Wesson and a speed loader in my pants pocket.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Both my doctor and dentist
are hunters. They know I hunt, so I've never been asked anything
about guns.

I ignored mine and he set me up for a hearing test. VA doctor asked and I just smiled a lot. Got two new state of the art hearing aids out of it all for free. (VA supplied for hearing loss that is) and I never answered his question either. I can hear fine now BTW.

I asked my ophthalmologist for a shooting prescription so that I can get the front sight in focus. He showed me his CCW and we started discussing shooting. None of my other doctors has ever raised the subject.

Not to try and "one up" the OP but try this one on for size--

couple of years ago I was trimming forsythia bushes and had one big long branch wind up over my shoulder and launch out across my eyeball-OUCH.
Now, 40 years of veterinary practice told me that I had a good chance of a corneal laceration and once I could open the lids I took a look and sure enough a little tag of cornea was wallowing about.
Off to the ER.
Explained to the first nurse that it was a bush that bit me- then a second one comes in and starts off with the question " do you have thoughts of suicide?"" Incredulous, I ask WTF? She repeats, kind of condescending "do you have any desire to harm yourself"
I lost it and explained that although there may be a list of folks to whom I could do so, I DEFINITELY was not on it! I then retorted, Lady, it was a friggin' bush, get real.

I know, bad answer.

Later I found out from my MD children that it is a stock question in trauma of ANY sort in the ER and could be used to commit or at the least trigger a psych eval.

So, if you think that they are not looking to curtail your rights in any and all fashions available to them, think again and watch how you answer, I know I will.

That's the first thing I would do as a suicide attempt is to run into a rose bush. To funny. ;D

Here in North central Wyoming it would be out of place not to own a gun. I feel more like an old timer every day, remembering the good old days, you know when you could find bullets ,primers, powder and not be surrounded by liberal government policies. I feel the rate of decline in this country is accelerating more and more with each and every government action. I guess it remains to be seen how much of this "We The People " will put up with. I feel young but at 42 I feel like an old timer anymore. :-\
