Gun stock geometry.

Why so many? I understand the old tradition hunting style for the most part. We all grew up with them. If your old enough to know. But when you go to a web page from Manner or Richards they taper some from the for end of the stock and not the rear. Others both match angle. It seems the stock should always match the barrel . Parallel for the best accuracy. Thoughts

Like Bart said, some organizations have rules for stock taper. Outside of that, stock makers have different ideas about the taper. Some like taper in the rear only, some like it in the front and back, some like none at all. It does change how the rifle recoils and acts in the bags. Does it have an effect on raw accuracy? Not in my experience.

Shooting style comes in to play also. A good example is the subtle difference between the Manners T2 and T4.

T2 - forearm is perfectly flat forward of the bottom metal (great for attaching a full length Arca rail) and slightly sloped towards the muzzle end. The rear stock has a more traditional slope to it. This allows you to run a bipod for front support (semi-fixed elevation) and make your elevation adjustments with your rear bag by moving it forwards or backwards.

T4 - the forend is also flat to aid in riding a bag or rest, but has little to no slop. It runs parallel with the rear stock. This helps it track nice and straight when using a mechanical front rest to adjust elevation, and a firm bunny ear type rest in the rear.
