Gun(s) you wish you'd never sold?

Forbes 24B in 280 Rem.
Bought it hoping to use it on a western hunt.
Didn't look like it was ever gonna happen & sold it last summer.
Then wife tells me if i want to go, do it, we'll finance it somehow. :mad:

My Pythons in particular but there are several others, Browning 22LR that broke down in the middle (barrel) I'm sure someone knows the model (from Belgium). And several more........

First year production Light Weight Commander in .38 Super In the box with all original paperwork, was fired 5 times. Had belonged to a bank guard in Chicago.

Traded it for an nice and complete with box, papers and a couple slugs from slugging the bore S&W 52 with 8 magazines which was later stolen.

Lost all the way around on that deal.

Browning BSS 20 ga, Winchester 67 (my first 22), Taurus 65 I paid $50 for...stupid me! Oriskany #87 1911...heavy and prickly, but it was a 1911!!!

But most of all...my duty revolver, a SW 686 4 inch. New in 1993. Sold it about 1998 and that was STUPID. It went for $265 cause "no one uses revolvers anymore". Yes, glare at my shame.....

For me it was an early 60’s model Browning Pigeon Grade O/U Trap model. I made 5 straight State Junior teams with it. It is truly the sweetest handling and shooting gun I’ve ever held and/or shot. Also, I had a Springfield P9 (made under contract by CZ). Next to my Kimber, the best shooting pistol I’ve ever held. Live and learn....

Oddly enough, a 90’s Winchester model 70 with the boss system in 300 wm. It was my rock gun and used to amaze (sometimes anger) my friends with my lucky guesstimates at some crazy long distances for back in the day. Barrel was pretty done and wish I would have had it rebarreled. Was my first gun I started hand loading for as well

Last year I sold a Colt Competition 9mm 1911 that was beautifully blued. I needed a few bucks to buy a new rifle. The blued version of that gun was rare. I’d love to have it back.

My Dad died when I was 8 years old. He left me with alot of older guns from him and his father. By age 16, I was really into guns but never knew real value or more importantly sentimental value. Found a deer rifle I really wanted so took my father's old Browning Belgium A5 12 ga and traded it for that deer rifle. Wondered at the time why that gun dealer gave me an even trade for a brand new deer rifle. Thought I was the luckiest kid around. Today I realize I was the dumbest.

Ever sold or given away a gun that, to this day, you wish you'd never gotten rid of?

Only one, in my case ...

A Remington 700 .243 that was nearly quarter-MOA accuracy at 300yds. Started out as an off-the-shelf SPS Varmint with heavy barrel and the flimsy plastic stock. Added a Jewell HVR trigger, a custom fiberglass stock (perfectly bedded), and a marginally tolerable scope. And I wasn't hardly a decent marksman. With a great barrel and reloading, along with a high-quality scope ... well, I'll never know.

Mine was a Ithaca single shot lever .22 , M-49. I used that thing all the time as it was accurate, short, easy pointing, shot .22 short , long, long rifle, bird shot. It was the perfect rodent getter. I gifted it to my young nephew as he had a love of the outdoors and hunting. Years later I was at his house and we were out in the barn and there was that rifle in the corner all rusted and ruined. I learned a valuable lesson that day.

I have a love /hate thing with threads like this, because they make me recall some of my more foolish moves. I must temper this with the absolute fact that as a state cop back in the 80's and 90's we weren't making much money and with a growing family I had no other option but to buy and sell to get things I wanted. I let go of some REALLY nice firearms that were all pristine:

Smith and Wesson Model 52-2 LNIB
Smith and Wesson Model 29-2 6" LNIB ( But I never shot it well)
Colt Series 70 Gold Cup Purchased New (This one stills hurts)
Colt 4" Python Blued Purchased New ( Sold to buy the Gold Cup Above)
Colt SAA .45 LC Nickel With Short Barrel w/Ejector Rod (Special Run of 150 made)
Browning BT 100 Stainless With Thumbhole Stock ( I really miss this one now)
Krieghoff KS-5 Purchased New
Winchester Model 12-Y NIB (These were really well built shotguns despite what some say)
Marlin Texan .22 Lever Gun with Long Barrel
Swiss P210 Almost New Condition

There were other firearms involved in my buying and selling days, but these are the ones that stand out and still pain me that I let them go. I had a Detonics .45 and a Seecamp .45 Commander Conversion that slipped through my fingers, but I really don't "miss" those too much. Several of these "sales" fed my present collection though so there is some good out of this. Still I wish I had the above list back. Now it is rare that I sell anything even if I don't shoot something for a long time. I have a couple of M1A's (both NM's) and 2 CMP M-1's that I can't remember when I shot them, but I will never let them go.

I used to haunt the local gun stores and go to all the gun shows looking for "stuff", but I have stopped doing that in my advanced years. My most recent purchase was a Sig P210 Target American that I really like and a S&W Performance Model 41. I really have no desire for much else anymore however a Fortner Action Anschutz would be a welcome addition. That one may never happen though. Such is life...

Man, do I remember this deal. I had a Browning Sweet Sixteen. In 1960 my brother was taking his new bride pheasant hunting. They borrowed my Sweet Sixteen for her to use. She loved it. I didn’t want to sell it and I told him so but after some begging I sold it to them for $60.00 with the provision they sell it back to me if things didn’t work out. Son of a bitch sold it a year later to a buddy of his. I showed my anger and have spoken to him little since that day. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him in about 10-12 years, maybe more. I’m getting mad just thinking of that deal.
