Gun cases for your expensive toy

It has always amazed me to see guys come to the range with their $3500 rifle wrapped in a blanket!
So, I thought I'd start this thread to see what everyone is using.

Personally I use a Starlight case, it's heavy, but there are none better for protection. The military uses them, and at Sniper Country's web site they really put one thru it's paces. They put eggs inside, dropped it from a buildings roof, dragged it behind a pickup truck to the range, and beat it with a sledgehammer! The eggs were ok so even the most severe airline baggage handlers would be no match for a Starlight.
Sure as hell beats a blanket for protecting that new toy.

What are you guys using?

Danny--

starlight, and Doskocil gun-guard,great deal for the $$)

SKB is a great case as well, but i dont own any.

I heard Sam's club was closing out the Starlight Rifle cases late last year for around 100 bucks.By the time I got to my local Sams club, they were gone.I doubt if a deal like that will be coming around any time soon.

I've been using a large Pelican case and it will hold 2 rifles and has wheels making it a little easier to move arond.
Bear Track Cases makes soem nice ones too.

I've been looking at Plano "AirGlide" that holds the rifle upright. Has anyone tried one of those?

I'm using one for my Remington PSS. Good case for the $$$. I've had mine about 5 years now and it has held up well.

I use the Plano AirGlide for my BR guns. I think it's a better way to transport the rifle as the scope doesn't get any side pressure applied to it as in a flat case, esp. with a tall elevation turret. It's big enough that I can fit two Dewey cleaning rods in alongside the gun and the barrel mirage shield gets velcro'd to the inside top lid.

The foam inside is easily widened for the 3" forearm. My Hunter Benchrest rifle with it's 2.25" forearm fits perfectly w/o any mods.

With a big scope like a Nightforce, you may need to check and see if the lid will close over the objective and clear the elevation turret.

I have a Plano Airglide for my HP X Course rifle and love it. I can stuff bubble pack etc around it for flights, then when I get to the destination city just roll up the bubble pack and leave it in the hotel room and use the case as normal.
I have made extra straps to hold a cleaning rod securely,i.e. away from the rifle), and some of those small plastic fishing tackle organizers will fit in beside the rifle and hold all manner of bits and bobs.
Mainly, my sights are not touching anything at all, and getting the rifle in and out is simple and straightforward enough for me to use it near the firing line instead of a rain cover.
Great case for the price.

Dennis,

You used to be able to buy the Plano at Wal-Mart, they may still sell them.

You're in Littlestown, I'm near Arendtsville do you shot at Shippensburg?
