Green laser pointer?

I noted a fellow shooter using a green laser pointer at a shoot this month; it ws used to line up flags at the 200. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what features/power would be workable on a sunny day? Where can I buy one & have to mortgage my house? Thanks/ Chaz

By law, it can't exceed five milliwatt for consumer use. Green is far more visible than red, and a dot should be easily visible at 200 yards. The beam will not be visible at this power level in sunlight. At night, it sure can!

The unit below is 5 milliwatt, is $80, and has a range of 4,200 yards. I had the opportunity to play with a 'hot-rodded' pointer,20 milliwatt), and the beam is not visible in sunlight. You could make out the beam inside the house, but not outside.

If you want one where the beam is visible in sunlight, you will need way more power than legally available, unless you are a research scientist or something, which some websites claim their products are for. These can be very expensive.

You can get more than a 5mw laser, http://www.wickedlasers.com/ makes green lasers up to 400mw. They aren't cheap. I used a laser bore sighter to line up chronograph but it would take one more powerful to use on the flags.

Yes the law says they are limited to 5mw however you can get on the web and buy whatever you want.

To all beware the 5mw limit is in place for safety reasons. Those high powered lasers can cause damage to your eyes... e.g. blind spots that will not heal!

Use them but don't stare at them or point them at others!
