Going rate for XP-100 in .221 FireBall?

At local shop has a very nice XP-100 in .221FB in what I was told is a Fajen thumbhole stock (really nice laminate) with a Leupold pistol scope. The pistol looks brand new, with no wear on the bluing on or in the receiver or even in the lug races, and the bore looks like it hasn't seen more than maybe 100 rounds tops. It also comes with the original plastic stock, and it has a rib on the top of the barrel along with iron sights.

The asking price is $700, and I can get it for a bit less with Cash. I don't have much experience with bolt-pistols, so I am unsure if the price is fair or not.
Can someone fill me in on what a good price for a pistol like this should be? I really want to go pick it up, but I don't want to find out later that I paid way too much.

Considering they aren't made anymore and it's in mint condition, it doesn't seem like too bad of a price, but I may be wrong.

Thanks

Just got off the phone with the shop owner, it's mine. I will be picking it up in a couple hours.

He agreed to $650 cash, and he is going to throw in a 100 pieces of Remington .221 FB brass.

I think it's a good deal.

What is a good powder for the Fireball anyway? I should probably grab some while I'm there.

And does anyone know what the twist rate would be?

Thanks

You got a good deal ! IMR 4227 is the best powder for the pistol . Re7 seems to do well in my rifle but not in the 10 inch pistol barrel . Probably because of a faster burn rate than Re7 . XP-100 is a fun pistol !

3 of my 221 Fireballs with the factory barrels LOVE RL-7 and 40 grain ballistic tips....
1 in 12 twist on the factory barrels.........
Heck of a deal on it Kenny, you'll have more fun that your allowed to....

Preacher, you are right about the fun part. I had it out for a bit today, and wow is it a blast to shoot. Why would Remington ever stop making such an awesome pistol? So fun and super accurate as well. They should definitely do another run of XP's for sure.

It's going to take some getting used to, as far as the pistol scope is concerned. But it sits in the bags very well and shoots like a dream. But with a bipod, I think it would be a coyote's worst nightmare out to at least 175 yards, and even farther with a more capable round.

One more thing. I know these are no longer made, so would it be unadvisable to have a 6br barrel chambered for it, if I used a new bolt and left the old barrel and bolt intact? It just seems like a 6BR would be a natural round for this platform, and would surely have a bit more punch than the .221 FB, and would likely have a bit more reach as well.

I was thinking of maybe a 14" to 16" 10 twist, maybe faster, for 80 grainers. Really give the yote's something to fear!

It wouldn't be right away, as I have other projects that need finishing, so it's just a thought.

Glad you got it. I have two xp100s, one in .223 and the other in 7mmBR. I have thought about doing a 6BR but these seem to do all I want. I modified the stock on mine to facilitate removing the bolt by drilling a small 1/8" hole through the stock that enables me to use a small allen wrench or rod to push up on the bolt release. Best of luck with your xp100, I know you will enjoy it.

Kenny-- You can chamber it to about anything you could dream up and love the results.
I have them in 221 Fireball, 22 BR, 6 BR, and the awesome 25-284 and one lonely .284 Winchester.....

Here is my bolt release. Sinclair sells these.
