What are the reasons for using xp-100 actions in rifles?

I thought that was overturned by the Supreme Court in the case of Thompson Center Vs US of A?

You know how talking to the BATFE gets you. My bud was getting one of his checks with the BATFE and the officer was asked this question. Either he was uninformed or the rules haven't changed. Didn't think much about it as I no longer own one.

Well, at any given time, the action is going to be either a rifle or a pistol. So who's to know if it was once a pistol converted to a rifle and then again back to a pistol? food for thought

Kinda like not getting caught holding up an old Lady. Who would know?

They made some repeaters. Also remember, if converted to a rifle, they cannot be legally be returned to pistol configuration.
I have a TC Contender. If I put a 20 inch barrel and shoulder stock on it, you are saying it is illegal to put the original 12 inch barrel and pistol grip back on making it a handgun again?

Sorry butch, that is false statement. I won't go down the rabbit hole, but it has seen MUCH discussion. If it were true, you could not swap barrels on a TC.

It is what the birth certificate says, aka what it was sold as. Some guys are buying 700 long actions that are not designated until they were sold, making basically a long action XPR. Same thing with some of the savage actions.
You can't make a rifle into a pistol. There are some mixed emotions and thoughts on the frames. At one point it was said all TC frames were pistols, even if sold as a rifle. I was told that changed after the introduction of the Encore.

Bottom line IMHO, if you have people checking serial numbers on your frames/actions, chances are you will have other issues as well.

Not saying that you or BoomerBoom are wrong, but where did you get your info other than on a forum? Do you know where I can read the BATFE regs on this?
Thanks

Sorry, I am not disputing anyone, but looking for information. I don't want to find out I would be doing anything illegal if I were to change barrels and stocks. I bought a Contender because it looked like it gave me some flexibilities.

I understand and sure not saying that you would knowingly do anything illegal. I guess we all see so much on the internet and take it as gospel.

If the "rifle" action has a 16" + length barrel and the OAL of the assembly is 26"+, BATFE says it's STILL a rifle, no matter what it looks like!!
Go with a shorter barrel and you're looking for trouble.

Actually spoke to a BATF gent some years back.

Just like most of the time, people writing the laws up know very little of what they speak.

This can be a messed up subject, I know as I have seen it happen numerous times. A lot of pistol boards will just lock the thread rather than let it get out of hand.

I will step aside and not participate any more.
Keep it civil gents;)

From what I read in the download, all it's referencing is conversion of existing legal rifle and pistols to NFA firearms, i.e. short barreled rifles and pistols with shoulder stocks.

Attached is the file which ATF published to explain the Supreme Court decision which allows a contender pistol to be converted back and fourth between a rifle and a pistol.
It is a bit ambiguous.
