Getting Ready for the Nursing Home

I wish that was all the magazines I had, joined the NRA in 1973 I have every one up to this date, plus 20 years earlier from my dad’s collection.
30+ years hand loader.
20 years precision reloading.
Guns and ammo? Don’t know how many years?
Varmint Hunter magazine?
Still read them can about tell what on the cover and what in side articles are.
Not alone with all my castings equipment when I moved to where I am at, try
36 tall 5 gallon buckets of wheel weights also.
Just turned 60

Well since I dont have any family to speak of that would help me, I figure when (if i get there) I cant take care of myself, Ill be sentenced to the nursing home. So I've been separating my magazines to take with me to give me something to do:confused::D:D I hope they let me bring them all with meo_O Otherwise Accurate Shooter may be my only entertainment. :pView attachment 1171180View attachment 1171181View attachment 1171182. Of coarse if Im the only man in there Mabie there would be something else to do afterall:rolleyes::)
Be careful of which nursing home you pick, after my surgery for throat cancer, they sent me to a nursing home to recover. Problem popped up right away, NO ACCESS TO GUN RELATED SITES! on the internet. I could not access this site at all. My nursing home was controlled by UPMC, this was also the case at the hospital in Pittsburg, PA. After spending 4 weeks in the nursing home, if I'm ever in that position again, this guy is going to go back on his own property and have a talk with god, no dam way I will die in a nursing home. Worst care I've ever seen, had wife bust me out, when I left I had to still feed myself through a tube for weeks and had my wife do the nursing, care was 1000 percent better.

Nursing homes are a scam unless you exhausted all possibility's because if you have any savings or own a home etc including retirement money the nursing home will exhaust it all in a years time. If you own a home put it into a family member's name with rights to occupy it till you cant or that goes away and secondly get a trusted family member or friend who will sit on the money so when you need or want things you can afford it. Ask me how I know.

Don't about your condition, but would first look having some body come in and provide care. Personally would not do well in any nursing home, unless in a comma and probably not even then. At home familiar in surroundings might be a happier solution. My wife and I care for my 90 year old mother. Don't believe she would last in a nursing home or she would drive everybody nuts.

hoz53,

I can't encourage you enough to do an in-depth exploration on ALL your possible
options before committing to plans for nursing home care.

I've visited a lot of nursing homes and had to go into a couple for rehab after surgery.
These nursing home stints were the absolute low points of my life. My wife and I are both
getting up in years and it scares the hell out of me to think about either of us going into
such places.

Others might have had better experiences and I wish them well.

This reminds me of an old saying----if you're going to play in a game, you'd better know
the rules and the score.

Bear down and do your homework-----then make your best decisions.

The best to you.

So if you do all that who ends up paying for you to be in a nursing home????????

We all find ourselves in bad places at times. The true test is what we do to deal with it.

Can’t go back back and change the past. Expensive lessons hopefully learned and not repeated.

Sounds like you see where you are and know where you want to go. Execute your plan to get there starting today with the first step. It’s sure as hell not going to all be easy. Sure, you may stumble and fall along the way. We all do. Get up, readjust if need be, and keep doing what it takes to make yourself happy. It’s up to us to live our lives like we want to and be happy. I refuse to let any person take my joy.

My Dad use to say “I am not responsible for how you treat me. I am responsible for how I treat you.” Those that live life screwing others will have to answer for what they do-sooner or later.

Be well.

much Wise info here that anyone can make use of. thankyou

My wife started mentioning “Retirement communities”. With my wife, if I want her to go in the opposite direction, I agree with her. We visited two. She stewed for a couple weeks, then suggested we take a look at Wyoming. We wound up here, in Texas. Ahhhhh! Victory!
I’d rather die on the street than one of those places.

well I think you know but over 70% of people in nursing homes are paid for by medicaid(us) Generally what happens is they take everything you have, which doesn’t take long since they charge at least 100K per year, and than Medicaid pays it. They give you mabie 20 bucks a month for spending money.

Yes that’s right I agree with you Jon my dad was in one for a month in rehab. Thought we were going to have to put him in permanent so we found out about nursing homes. They force you to hide assets in order to have anything at all.
thanks

Yeah I know about the nursing homes and I don’t think I’ll be going there if at all possible to do anything else. Thanks

Medicaid?? Isn’t that a socialist healthcare system for the poor?

Yes lucky I agree with you. 10 years ago my dad was in one a month for rehab. I promised myself and him at that time he wouldn’t have to go to a nursing home permanent if I could do anything about it. Took care of him full time 8 years until he died and he never went to a nursing home. I’m happy I could do that. It was the best time of my life . No one to take care of me but I’ve lived most of my life and so things will work out. I hate the nursing homes and the system that bankrupts people after a lifetime of hard honest work because you go in a nursing home. Thanks Much for the thoughts.

“ rather die on the street than one of those”. Me to for sure. We’ve made it this far so we done good right. I guess I won’t need to move my PS mags after allo_O
