Getting Ready for the Nursing Home

UMMMMMMMMM.....I am not sure what to say. I do know this. I watched my father for almost 5 years in a veterans home stair out in space not knowing a thing and was 100% taken care of. What ever I need to do it will happen before I get to that point.
that is sad and i know it must have been very difficult for you.

Each night I say a prayer for the Good Lord to take me if I die in my sleep, and if He will, let me die with my boots on walking out the door in the morning. All I can do is put one foot in front of the other and not worry about when He comes. I try to stay active and find interesting things to do with my time. These things include mental things to keep the mind active so I can avoid just sitting and waiting for that final minute on earth.

I do have a doctor that will write me a prescription that would allow me to make a choice if need be. That also gives me some comfort.

Getting prepared for all this - God's waiting room - planning to throw the mother of all potlatches (non-inventoried stuff - in accordance with state & federal law), then get onto a VPN. Plan to distribute extraneous stuff at this site for shipping costs with huge discounts. Don't want greedy relatives picking over my stuff and making snide comments.

Any female that would share life adventures with me would be beautiful.

That is ONE meaning...

You are welcome to drive out and visit. I have not been out to my prime Rockchuck grounds yet, but it is about time to go check the new crop.
Thank You for the offer. I may take a road trip West if this virus stuff ever lets up. Im a hermit at this point. I do have my house in order- so to speak-- at least the best i can do. Could sell some guns I guess

My sons keep reminding me that t need to be good to them since they will be selecting my retirement home.
Actually we have had experiences with 2 facilities locally. My father-in-law was in one and my brother-in-law in another. I would be hard pressed to pick one over the other. Both are first class. I just hope I don't have to make the decision any time soon.

Nursing homes are a scam unless you exhausted all possibility's because if you have any savings or own a home etc including retirement money the nursing home will exhaust it all in a years time. If you own a home put it into a family member's name with rights to occupy it till you cant or that goes away and secondly get a trusted family member or friend who will sit on the money so when you need or want things you can afford it. Ask me how I know.
There are legal workarounds, but it's dicey. Be sure you see an attorney BEFORE trying anything like this. Medicare fraud is a thing, and they prosecute.

I do think it's rather absurd that nursing homes are cheap if you can't afford them, and $$$ if you can. So they take all your money until you have none, then suddenly they'll take less?

Imagine if everything you bought was priced based on your income or assets...

I know first hand that they will come back and take things you sold in the past 5yrs. Maybe an astute lawyer can chime in on this @Forum Boss

when mom passed everything except the car and her trailer had been in my name for 15 years and i had been paying the taxes on it all.
the car and trailer were listed as either her or me on the title. the 'or' was the important part.

advance planning is essential.

I've been thru it both ways. Mom had a Will. Her estate still went thru probate. Father in law had a trust. Nothing was touched. All went to his kids. No tax no state involvement. A trust is the only way to go. Can only speak for my home state of Michigan.

My father passed Jan 15th of this year at 96. He had a trust but some how had a bank account with a substantial sum of money in his own name instead of the trust. The will and the trust both had a line that stated if any thing is not named in the trust or any pourover it would not be subject to probate. The local judge could not stand it that no local lawyer would make any money on it so he insisted it go through probate. $2750 a thousand documents and court cost later my brother and I had access to his bank account to pay his bills.

I was building a house on Lake Barkley just for that reason ,so people could come and heal.Human corruption made me sell it ,but you would have been more than welcome. If I hit the lottery it's on !!!!

Average "length of stay" in a nursing home, 13 MONTHS. I wonder if the New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Washington states management plans the last couple months has "shorten" the stay.
