FTR Bipods

Thanks for the info. The common review to the adjustable bipods is that the Pheonix holds its adjustments. I guess the burden of whether it’s worth the extra $150 is on me. Buy once, buy right. Wheeler’s endorsement of the FlexPod is tempting. If it shoots well off cowshat, it’s gotta shoot good off of a pad or grass.
Dont forget to add the new lowering kit from Blake Machine/F-Class Products for $100. :D

Wheeler, @Dos XX and @Down South all shoot pretty decent from a Flex pod.

Keith, if you are comfortable loading a bi-pod such as the Harris you are using now, a flex Pod could work for you. Many shooters have tried my rig, some like it, some don't. The LPV stock has a pretty steep angle on the bottom of the stock which works well with a Flex-Pod. I have found the flatter the bottom of the stock, the more you have to push to get your vertical hold on the target right once things start settling after you start shooting. This can be a pain.

A couple more things I like about a Flex-pod is the cost, plus there's not much on one to break. I have used and abused one for about 7 years, zero failures.

Dean, I don’t like to load. That’s my main con to a Harris. When I do load, I stay on target far better. Otherwise, I have too much “bounce” and end up off target. Ive shot off of a rest more and I am more comfortable with one. Having said that, I welcome the challenge of learning something new. I have been shooting more bipod lately. Even though it feels like the rifle “bounces” with light loading, I’m having less vertical than with a solid load. I also don’t use much cheek tension.

KeithF,
Just saw your post. Have you looked at an Atlas A10? And as for pricing, you said it yourself, buy once cry once. Over the years, I've found that disregarding the pricing allows you more room for variability and finding what works best for your needs with your specific rig. I have owned several Harris bipods and still have a couple. But I've also found the Atlas line is much more stout in strength and less prone to recoil (with larger cartridges). So if the best accuracy game is your thing, take a look at an Atlas. Just something to consider.

I have looked into the Atlas and Accutac. I have shot the Accutac. It’s a well made folding bipod. The footprint is much wider than my Harris. I know the Atlas is very popular, but I haven’t seen one at either of the clubs I’ve shot at. Therefore, I have no first hand experience other than internet articles/reviews on them. Accuracy is of the utmost importance. It started out as just being fun to participate. It’s still fun to participate, but it’s real fun to compete.

I use a duplin on my .308, and it is great! I am very close to weight and I like the fact the duplin is only 17oz.
