If I am reading the rules correctly, the amount of contact the stock has with the front bag is not limited, am I understanding this how it was intended to be?

Currently in one, if not more of the governing bodies, the rifle can only have 1/2” contact on the side of the stock with the front bag.

If my understanding is correct, this will allow a lot more room for experimentation.

As a match Director at GRRC Harris Mn all i can say is THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH for this big advancement to long range Benchrest .
I see nothing but good coming out of this change.
TO me it will be the equivalent of removing restrictor plates to the Daytona 500 without the big crash in the race that takes out half the field . FUN ,FUN ,FUN ,and small targets and big scores. no DQ

Here we go again.
I don't shoot long range, but do belong to the IBS. All I see from this is another split in sanctioning bodies and another deterrent to our sport.
I agree with Tom, dissenters not happy.
I'll get flamed for this but I got my big boy pants on and all my turn-out gear close by.

To me there is nothing wrong with people who want to take a different approach to things Roger. This game that me and you play has gotten a lot less fun than it use to be over the years and others have told me it's not what it use to be and it sure isn't. When fellow shooters have to resort to taking another fellow shooter to court because he didn't like what you said to him somethings wrong.

Dusty, we shoot NBRSA short range here on the Western Slope. Lots of these guys have experimented with all that is allowed in those events. I get questions all the time about it. The cool part is, this new governing body is more in line with what the short range folks are doing in regards to bags, equipment, and shared sighter/record time period. It looks to be a significant step in the right direction. The shooters at Western Colorado will discuss this at our match tomorrow morning.

I personally would like to see an early morning section for attempts on breaking the record for group size. To many times that attempt is controlled by who or what group (heavy/lights) got to shoot first that day. This would allow anyone interested in a record attempt no matter what class you shoot in the equal access to prime conditions all at the same time.
I would enjoy a conversation about this idea for each of us to be able to accurately and thoughtfully give our own thoughts to this idea.

Aside from recognizing an individuals accomplishment at that moment in time, the quest for records should be secondary to the more important aspects of Competitive Shooting, particularly the sometimes overwhelming things on the to do list that Match Directors have to put up with.

Registered Benchrest Matches Have always been run under the rule that when your relay comes up, you shoot. If you happen to hit a favorable condition, that’s the time to go for it.

Looks great guys, I was probably one of the most active in traveling and shooting 1k in 2019 & 2020. All the drama and bickering just simply burnt me out. I made some great lifetime friends during it though. Hope to shoot Freedom Benchrest with you guys that make the sport what it is, drama free and a damn good time!

A record set under these circumstances would not be a record set in competition but a record set in a dedicated favorable condition attempt at a record so are you wanting 2 sets of records or the bar lowered on a record?
In my mind it would not be the same as a record in a match.

The answer to your first question is “to be determined” the answer to your second question is, it is up to the match director. There are ranges that hold competitions with the IBS and NBRSA both. We are not asking to be exclusive.

I agree with Joel on this.. From what I’ve read, I believe that Deep Creek starts the first relays with light gun and begins at 08:00? I’m thinking they can accomplish this by offering preregistration?
I shot with Joel a few times last year and we didn’t start the first relay until 10:00 or after and that first relay could be HG for that month cycle, so LG might not start until around 11:00, which is unfortunate bcs of the conditions.

We have to actually. In the summer time 8 seems late, it gets light so early. Plus many camp here so we are ready to go.

Agree. I do not see anything in the rules that would automatically attract new shooters - to the sport itself. I do see things in the rules that I like.

There are only so many shooters in LR BR shooting.
There are only so many weekends to shoot in a month.
There is only so much time people have to participate.
People only have so many components to shoot up.
You can't build BR guns overnight.

This will only draw away from and water down what currently exists for the sake of satisfying rule changes. People didn't like the advantage of two organizations using one range to accumulate points, then you end up with the GBA. People want more rule changes they were not able to achieve within the IBS, and now you will have FB. The more it fractures, the weaker it becomes.

Is it possible that a better program would help consolidate some of the fractions you are concerned about? Like you I don’t like to see our body fractionated, but I believe competition of ideas generates a stronger product.
IBS left NBRSA and then GBA left IBS. Like you, I like some of the new rules that Freedom is proposing. What I like better , is that the individual shooter body seems to have better control of the rules as this association moves forward. Every club has their own personal representative and rule changes are accomplished by a majority vote of those representatives, independent of the board of directors. Each of those representatives are responsible to their shooters and they should be devoted to the long range game without any ulterior motives. If I’m correct in that understanding then it’s a major improvement over any other sanctioning body that currently exist for us - IMO. I don’t believe any one is indicating that the initial proposed rules can’t be modified or fine tuned by the members of the association once it is established.
I just suggesting you might be looking at the water glass half empty l, rather than half full.

I am one of those folks who run these matches. It’s simple for me; I will run the form of match that my shooters want in the interest of not holding hard feelings or being stubborn.
