FREEDOM BENCHREST

I read through the rules, could you give us the readers digest version of the more common sense aspects and more relaxed atmosphere for ease of operation for ranges?
As far as the common sense aspects, it pertains to the IBS methods of determining SOY points for 1000 yard competition. There is no scoring program that will determine the SOY points because of the, in my opinion, archaic rules. That method of calculating SOY points has been replaced with a program similar to the 600 yard discipline that works with ease and simplicity. As far as the more relaxed atmosphere, the required referees responsibilities are significantly reduced resulting in friends not having to police their friend’s equipment and actions.
Hope this helps

Yes Dave, clubs will have the option of shooting 5 or 19 in 1K competition. With the implementation of the 600 yard format in the 1K discipline the winners and points earners will remain the same. It still gives the ranges with a “traditional “ history a way to cater to their customers

Thanks for the reply.

Evidently long enough to get presentable basics established. A lot of questions and concerns I would have had without the basics are now answered before I could develop an uninformed opinion based on conjecture. Personally, I don't care how long it's taken to present, I think it is potentially a move in the right direction - speaking as a match director. I still need more details answered but am interested enough to be patient as the info evolves.

I think the Tactical class will be VERY interesting with the wording "may" be shot in a single-shot manner. With no weight restrictions, I can envision very heavy semi-autos getting all their record shots on target in just a few seconds. I think it's going to be very cool to see how it all shakes out.......I personally have a very nice "sniper-type" bolt gun that I will be bringing to the Tac Rifle line.........Best of luck.........

Regards
Rick

As I reread the rules this morning it brings a smile to my face to fully understand the “record period” is also the sighter period just like short-range benchrest. Half the shooters at our club also shoot short-range and are accustomed to going back to the sighter when they get “lost” in the conditions.

Between the “record period” being one period, points system being exactly like 600 yard for the 1000 yard shooter and now being able to win and get awarded for 2 Gun Overall, I like all of these differences in the rules from other sanctions.

Allowing the real winner of group and score to get the recognition they EARNED at a grand is fantastic!
I still can not believe anyone thinks anything else is acceptable!

Disclaimer. I’m personally not a “real” 1000 yard BR shooter meaning I have never shot a 1000 yard match sanctioned by a recognized governing body. I have however shot at a grand at the Rendezvous Match and will again in June!

If you fairly won group, score, and overall, well good for you, you earned it!

I guess I now know why there was zero response when I reached out to Mike to offer to do the work to fix the format deal in IBS with members from each range. 5 different sanctions is exactly what we need for the roughly 200 people who play the game, not! Sad about this.

The rules look mostly good. You'll love shooting the sighter/record that way. We did a similar deal at 2,000, and groups and scores got instantly way more impressive. You will almost certainly see less relay bias in the results as well. That would be a unique challenge for a pit range to work with, but no doubt you'll see better groups and scores instantly.

Seems to me we would have had all the support needed do to all of this and been able to stay IBS though. Splitting yet again isn't ideal for anyone. Especially since most of what was changed would have been supported here, and that leaves very few to politic against it....maybe not the 5 shot deal, but most of the rest. There is clearly more to the story, and for less than wholesome reasons from my perspective.

No dog in the fight, but UBR is a prime example of having a different organization being a good thing. I’m sure a lot of people downplayed that game in its infancy, but no more. It’s fun, simple and provides more opportunity. The people who shoot UBR probably don’t miss IBS or NBRSA score shooting at all. I’ll leave the long range sandbox now. Wish this organization well

Here we go again.
I don't shoot long range, but do belong to the IBS. All I see from this is another split in sanctioning bodies and another deterrent to our sport.
I agree with Tom, dissenters not happy.
I'll get flamed for this but I got my big boy pants on and all my turn-out gear close by.

Thank you for positive input!

I can’t say that I disagree with many of your concerns and observations. I would like you to take a look at everyone on the Freedom Board and look at their contributions to the Shooting industries in general. Take a look at time and efforts that David and Donna have given for the sake of all shooters. Ronnie Milford slaves his butt off to help with Awards, prizes and help for every discipline with the IBS. Mike Wilson has spent many many evenings on conference calls for the LR Committee trying to resolve issues for LR Benchrest without a concern for self interests. Like every Match Director in the shooting world that we should be grateful to, Al Benarroch has stepped up, giving all of us shooters a place to shoot and is now the person of reason and direction for Freedom. Take a look at the time and resources given by Sally and I for the shooters, ranges and shooting organizations. All of us have tried to solve the issues behind the scenes that you refer to with resistance and animosity. All I will tell you is that we have tried and tried and tried, after a while we get tired of beating our heads against a business model that is fundamentally flawed from inception. I agree, it is sad, but to continue to do the same thing and expect different results is the definition of insanity.
I say this with all the respect in the world, and hope that not just you, but all of the other shooters realize Freedom Benchrest was created as a result of the Board of Directors desire to engage in LR shooting without the stress and manipulations we have endured in the past.
Sincerely

Being able to shoot sighters as you need them has always been a good thing. When you know you need them but cant shoot them thats just stupid. You should be able to use all the skills you have to win, not get an arm bar across your neck when you have a skill you cant use. Its like heading for a ditch but they wont let you steer back straight. Now if we could get penalties instead of a dq and shoot more targets there will be a big increase in participation. Nobody wants to drive 3 states over to shoot a couple targets then get a dq because the wind shifted and they cant shoot a sighter.

Dusty, page 19 of the rules. There is the penalty system.
